Match Day Two - Morning After

So I have some family obligations and my match analysis, goal recap and single play breakdown are going to wait until just a bit later in the day, maybe evening. There is life beyond soccer for this sounder.

Quickly my thoughts are simple regarding this one. Sounders FC are the sole holders of first right now, and pending the Chivas/Dallas result could remain there after two games. This isn't because RSL was the better team, as some of their quotes would have you believe. The better team wins.

Also to the group of traveling Salt Lake fans, you were exactly what support should be - passionate and friendly. Thank you for your tax dollars, please stay the weekend. ;)

Great to meet you on the way out, Dave. Fun game, much more nerve-wracking than the first.

Looking forward to the recap, and your thoughts on how Zakuani is a genius.

You guys are off to a great start. It’s gonna be interesting to see how things turn out.

Thanks for the link Dave. Please don’t say ‘I told you so’ too often about Zakuani.

I have to completely disagree the better team doesn’t always win. I have play in many games where the better team goes down on a fluke goal, however I do feel Seattle was the better team in the forward third. RSL has always had trouble finishing. The western confrence finals are a great example of that.

The only measure of how good a team is is its record. Everything else is showboating.

Soccer is one of those games where teams can win games after being thoroughly outplayed. For most of the second half we were thoroughly outplayed, but then we got the second goal against the run of play and that was it.

In spite of RSL’s possession domination, they really only forced one difficult save from Keller, so all of that pressure really didn’t produce anything.

The better team doesn’t always win. Manchester United just got defeated 2-0 by Fulham, and nobody in the world would argue Fulham is a better team than ManU, or that they were even the better team in that match. They were, however, the only team that found the back of the net and that’s all that counts.

Totally with you on that. You said it better than I.
