Half way to the season - Your Choice for MVP? - updated
As I update the statistics I track I will ask you to tell me who the MVP is through the first 15 matches of this 30 game season. Of note, this is the best expansion team at the half way point in MLS 2.0 (post contraction) and while the team has bean a mid-table road club (1.00 points average on the road, it is still a solid top table club at home).
Of note is that at the halfway point the West is crushing the East with a +14 GD and 1.43 points per match in 47 played.
You will note a small change as Nate Jaqua was granted a goal upon further review by MLS. The goal was oringally credited as an own goal in the DC match. This puts Jaqua in the top 25 in the league for PP90. Montero is tied for 3rd.
[table=14]
[table=15]
So give your top defensive and offensive player over the first 15, and who you would say the MVP overall is.

Top defender Hurtado. Top offensive Montero. MVP Keller for his leadership.

From purely a technical aspect: Osvaldo Alonso.
From the whole package deal: Kasey Keller.

It’s a remarkably tough call.
Montero is the offensive MVP. With his swoon during the middle weeks behind him, he has proven to be a remarkable offensive threat.
Kasey Keller as defensive MVP.
But when I’m watching a match it is clear to me that Osvaldo is the key stone and he is easily one of the best technicians on the team.
We’re fortunate to have such strong contenders.

Keller on defense, Ljungberg on offense. He literally covers just about every blade of grass during a game.

I’m torn between Keller and Alonso for the defensive player. Without Keller the team was 0-2-0 and without Alonso for 3 matches it was 0-1-2. Osvaldo seems to be the strongest connection between offense and defense on the club.
On offense, I’m a numbers guy, and while Montero is inconsistent he’s got the numbers. Maybe I’m holding Ljungberg to a higher standard, but he needs to make the leap that GBS made at this point in his MLS career.
