Site update - Stats and Schedule

So as I was going about updating my statistical tables, and the Sounders FC league schedule, I learned something. While the second set of 10 matches is mainly at home, there is a small problem.

While opponents up to this point have earned 1.26 points per match, the 2nd 10 (that includes the Crew) are at 1.32, and the remaining 19 are at 1.34. Points must be earned soon while the triple against the San Jose Earthquakes completes. The @@@ in early August could determine the playoff seeding and chance for a late play at the Sheild. But with only 2 away in the next 6 it is key to pick up points, and quickly.

Productivity and Plus/Minus follow

You'll notice that the productivity is really between Montero, Jaqua and Zakuani, with Ljungberg on the upswing. Ianni's limited minutes so far have some positive results, and if Alonso is truly out the next match it may be that Ianni should get that start in the CDM. There is a sample size issue, but Ianni seems to move the ball forward better than Vagenas.

But more important than how that holding mid does offensively, is how well they swing wide to fill the gaps left by forward movement of the fullbacks.

Who do you want at CDM and CAM next week?

Thanks for the stats Dave. Stats don’t lie or become stupid. Lately, another local soccer site has turned into a bitch fest. Reading what some people have to say, we don’t have any good players except Keller and Alonso. Oh, and almost no one hustles.

One thing I have learned about sports is that within a season, teams will have its ups and downs. I am just glad that in SSFC’s down games, they are not losing. They and Sigi will figure it out.

Columbus and Houston are examples of teams that had their down games to begin the season and are playing at a much higher level.

One thing that I misjudged is that SSFC has depth. I still think that is true regarding the players. However, when SSFC makes a lineup change, it affects them more than another team that has several years of playing together.

SSFC has to learn about themselves every time a new player steps on the pitch. Other teams just know from experience.
