Around SBN: New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Ring Unveiled

Futbol. Football. Soccer. SSFC

The color is Rave Green, the direction is North and West.

Some quick thoughts directly after the match. Sounders did what they needed to against Houston today in winning the three points, but more importantly played that brand of soccer we love, it certainly involved risk and hit the SSFC with a Goal Against at Home, but it also took advantage of the depleted Houston club.

Of course I will look deeper later, but my initial thoughts are that Ianni belongs with Le Toux and Zakuani in the "if he doesn't start he should still get time" camp. His defense is solid and he contributes on offense. While he may not be of the quality of Osvaldo Alonso the drop off isn't great.

Also, while one of those goals might be a gift from the referee, there was also a clear card against Waibel (iirc) which would have been his second yellow that went uncalled. The fact is that over the season the Cards/calls will balance out. The league isn't biased, it just isn't called well.

Quick update to the PP90 numbers

Montero 9/6 for 1.75
Jaqua 6/6 for 1.18
Ljungberg 2/5 for 0.76
Zakuani 2/4 for 0.71
Ianni 1/2 for 0.65

As always, more to come later. SuperClassico on FSC tonight will determine the #2 team in the league. Crew and Fire battle for #1 East and #3 overall on ESPN. If it wasn't 80+ degrees I would suggest you watch.

Great job Dave. The game was sloppy at times, but SSFC battled back from a defensive lapse and took care of business.

A couple of things. Whether it was a goal or not (and I am inclined to say it was, but not 100%), Montero showed unbelievable body control to score. He double pumped his left foot, an incredible display.

Second, what a goal by Ianni. He didn’t even know that the bicycle kick actually went into the goal until his teammates mugged him. That made up for his lapse that led to Houston’s goal.

Third, statistics don’t lie. Fredy Montero is having a fantastic season. He is second in the MLS in both goals scored and assists.

Unbelievably, after the great win today, on the Seattle Times website, many of their reader’s posts want to bag on Montero. I don’t get it.

In other news, the US were good and lucky to come back against Haiti in the Gold Cup. They looked terrible coming out for the second half giving up two goal within the four minutes.

Lastly, Chicago and Columbus play to a 0-0 draw. Chicago, SSFC’s next opponent is now all alone at the the top of the eastern table.

He didn’t just double pump with the left, he hopped with the right. I agree, some amazing body control.
