Preview of the MVP race? Stats updated

Normally I have the Sounders stats lead off the weekly update, but today I was talking to someone about the MVP race and it is notable that there are three offensive stars who belong in the discussion, and two keepers.

By Points Per 90 (aka Productivity)
Montero 1.51
Donovan 1.48
GBS 1.48

An argument could be made for Conor Casey (1.69), but his team isn't as good as those other three, I think that will matter. Cunningham's team sucks, and so he's out unless he wins the Golden Boot by like five goals.

The Keepers of note are simply Kasey Keller and Pat Onstad. Keller has the stats and the return in glory, and Onstad is just himself, nearly perfect.

Who is on your short list as an MVP candidate at this point?

The Rapids aren’t as good as the Galaxy? They’re pretty close, no?

By pure record and GD yes, and they have a game in hand.

But Colorado rides a huge homefield advantage, and can’t win on the road. Making them less likely to threaten for the Cup.

Plus LA with Donovan and Beckham, and their new defensive five is a solid club just off the Fire/Crew/Dynamo tier (also Sounders and Chivas in 2nd Tier at this time).

Media market also helps determine the race a bit. Seattle and LA will just get that much more attention.

Not just stats, but head-to-head match results. They haven’t played each other in forever though.
I’d pick Montero for rookie of the year but not MVP. He needs to be more of a team leader for MVP. Also, I’m guessing his production will fade a little if Sigi starts moving Zakuani inside.
It’d be great if MLS could get something like the Castrol Index going, but that would probably cost too much money outside of a huge tournament like the Confederations Cup.

If I knew how to do it through automation I would do Plus/Minus for the entire league. Or if I had a lot more time.
