Victory is Sweeter on the Opposition's Pitch

This is actually the hardest sports post I have ever had to write. It is so difficult to focus on the words that are appropriate.

Early tomorrow morning Sounders FC will land at Boeing Field as Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Champions.

Throughout the day they will be on radio, they will be on TV.

Tomorrow night they will be part of the Seahawks preseason game.

But right now, I can't focus on tactics, lineups and formations.

Right now all I taste is Victory.

From the first match at Starfire against Real Salt Lake, I’ve been chanting “We’re going to win the US Open Cup!”. Thank you Sounders for not making me a liar.

I’ve been so anxious about this match as our play has deteriorated over the past few weeks. The way we were playing was just dispiriting. But this victory feels like a turning point in the season. I hope that the team can use this as a way to refocus to run out the season strongly, get into the playoffs, and make a strong run.

That style of play last night is what will take the MLS to the next level. I hope they keep it up.

YES! That’s all.

I have felt very satisfied all day.

When the game began I was noticeably shaking with nerves, which also happened opening night.

Hopefully this sparks nice long run, well into the playoffs.

the sounders all of a sudden, have become road warriors! going undefeated in their last 3 road games. and all games against quality opponents. they seem to be coming together just in time. i feel very confident about the remainder of our season. all our games are winnable ones, and with the way the sounders played yesterday, and in the previous road matches against la and houston, we should rack up a serious amount of points. go sounders!!
