Memorial Stadium-->Sounders Park?

With the news that the Seattle School District is no longer interested in running memorial stadium it is time for Sounders FC to pounce on that site.  They could/should build an awesome 30-35K soccer only stadium with a grass pitch.  Big International matches and playoff game could still be played at Qwest, and the new "Sounders Park" could be used for Bumbershoot and other outdoor summer concerts with a view of the Space Needle.  Make this happen...it make sense on a lot of levels.

Except for the level where the footprint that Memorial Stadium sits on

is nowhere near big enough for an MLS park and there’s already a plan for it: http://bit.ly/7As1Q9

But will the School District approve of the Sounders taking the land for a stadium?

The Sounders will not build a stadium for themselves how stupid would that be. They are fine in qwest field.

QWest

QWest was built for soccer already. Why would they build another for soccer ?

Plus, the Sounders are thinking they will have 30k in just season tickets, so what are you going to do build a 50k-60k stadium at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars ?

Also, did you see what a hard time the SuperSonics ( RIP ) had in getting public money for a stadium. Not going to happen.

This would be nice, but unworkable

If the Sounders were to build a SSS, would they realistically have the expansion-of-seating capabilities that are available in Quest? The Center would be a nice location for the team, but parking is already horrible down there.

For the time being, Quest works well for this team. Why mess with it?

On a related note, would a grass field even be workable with Seattle’s rainy climate? Has anybody done an analysis of what it would take to maintain a grass pitch up here?
