The more insider info

re: the CBA, the better. But I know you’re already going to do that to the outer limits of your powers.

Maybe some offseason stat work on the rest of the league, or other fancy stuff like that, which is fun to read and takes you forever to work on :^)

I don’t know, Dave. You’re doing a great job already!

Working on Shots on Goals as a repeatable skill

Because if it is that might mean that Sounders had bad “luck” in the opposing keeper stopping them more than is typical.

Great stuff, expect more of the same, but...

I’m ready for some CCL updates — what’s the status of potential teams? when will all of the teams for the 2010-11 round be determined? and anything else related to that competition. with the sounders we have a chance to help elevate CCL’s profile closer to where it deserves to be. With an interest in Latin American football, I’m excited for this contest almost as much as the shield.

I also really appreciate transfer/draft speculation from your standpoint, as I can’t stand the ‘mainstream’ (soccernet, ives, etc.) coverage of potential targets and ‘mock drafts’.

Thanks for all your work!

CCL is one of the things that I will cover

It is in a dead period for both the current run, and qualifying for the next.

I do maintain a link to my coverage of the CCL, but it hasn’t been updated in a while.

Player contract status?

This is by far the best Sounders analysis blog going. (Prost Amerika a close second with its reporting). I really appreciate the work you put into it. One thing I can’t find anywhere, as I ponder various acquisitions the Sounders should make, is the contract status of the players in the league. Is this public knowledge? Most sports, you can find out how many years someone has left on a contract. When Kei Kamara was traded(?) to KC mid season, I saw a shot of him chatting with Sigi after a game. I think Sigi brought him to Columbus. I thought he might be a good fit for the Sounders, but didn’t know how long he had left at KC. Any info you can provide about player availability would be great (and if you happen to know what’s up with Kei Kamara, even better!).

As far as SB Nation, they have to get a Philly blog. It looks like Nowak is putting something good together over there. As a Philly transplant, I’m really happy about the team, and will be pulling for them on March 26th.

Thanks for the good reading.

Contractual Stuff

I’m trying to get better at this. Building the necessary contacts has been hard, and most of the time there is not an official release for contract terms. This is of course made more complicated by the CBA, but I will see what I can get out there.

Thanks

I like this blog.
I agree on the CCL. I followed it this year, but still know very little about the Tourney.
How many games will the Sounders play in the Group Stage. How many at home ?
( They better play those at QWest )
How many when we win it all ?

CCL format is as follows

Prelim Rd – Home/Away
Group Stage – Double Round Robin among four teams
Knockouts – Top 8 paired in Home/Away

So it could be 14 more games. There is yet to be an announcement over where the matches will be held.

What is the team doing to improve?

Personally I like reading anything about the goings on of the players. What are they doing in the off season, how did their performances compare with other players across the league, how should we look for them to improve in the next year, etc.

Regarding the franchise, what are they up to regarding scouting: new acquisitions, recruiting, development level programs, etc.

It’s also interesting to see how our regional competitors (Whitecaps, Timbers) are faring in their development.

Finally, team news would be helpful. For example, I understand from Go Sounders that the Sounders are playing in Spain this February? Will the whole squad be going? Who will/will not be part of this group? What benefits do they get from this preseason matchup?

Regarding other leagues and so forth, I prefer that information only if it directly pertains to SSFC show up on the front page. Tangential discussions that are non-SSFC related can fit nicely in the Fan Post section.

All this said, you definitely have the best Sounders blog out there. Thank you for keeping it up!

Another thought comes to mind...

New fans (which are vital for MLS to last) are unfamiliar with what happens during the MLS off season. This is especially pertinent to the Sounders this year, being our first off season.

Compare to baseball, where there are winter meetings, trades, free agency, rule 5 draft, etc. What happens in MLS? Is there a schedule other than the date of the first match? How many players compete in other leagues?

Ok, you've given me a long list

And I will try to fill those expectations.

Keep reading, and I think you will find your answers.

Read the Primer I wrote last year and you will find some answers.
