Galaxy sign Juninho
Just the wrong Juninho - this one is 20. The other players signed on loan are 21. Most notable about the signing is something that Carlos has been hammering into my head for over a year now - all have 5 years, or more, or professional experience. One started his pro-days at 13.
They were on the Sao Paulo team that won a trophy at the 2007 Dallas Cup, defeating Real Madrid and Chelsea en route to the title. They were also all on loan earlier this year with Toledo in the First Division of the Brazilian Paraná Championship.
The Dallas Cup is a youth cup contested every year, and Sao Paolo has two of the last three titles. Check out the alumni list at the link and read an amazing list of players (and Hakeem Olajuwon). Oh, and the Vancouver Whitecaps took 2nd last year defeating Monterey (Mexico), River Plate (Brazil Argentina) and Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany) on their way.

Wikipedia has River Plate being from Argentina
Which is where I thought they were from.
This is a good move by the Galaxy and I hope the Sounders are planning something along these lines. Brazil has the richest vein of soccer players anywhere in the world, with hundreds of clubs at all levels. The state of São Paulo, by itself, has 108 clubs over four divisions that that’s not touching the semi pro and the youth divisions, which go down to Under 11. That’s a lot of talent to mine and a lot of those players would love to be making MLS level money.

What kind of money can Brazilian players expect to make locally?
Clearly dependent on division, but I have no idea.

Off topic...
SAH, care to post some thoughts on Brad Evans’ chances to join the US team for the World Cup? Who are his main competitors for spots, and what does he have to show in camp to earn a place?
