Steve Davis (who also writes at Daily Soccer Fix) has a hint that there are owners pushing for a Second DP slot, but that there is a first goal of getting the empty slots filled first. Yes, Seattle is one of those teams.

Part of the reason many teams don't use their DP is because you get one shot, and getting that shot wrong bears a high cost.

Of course, the Number 1 issue is to get the CBA DONE!

Here is a thought...

what if there were some sort of stipulation that teams could get extra DP slots by bringing worthy Americans home from Europe? What if Houston could get a break on their cap in order to pay Stu Holden enough stay in Houston? What if Sounders could get a second slot by bringing Freddy Adu back?

Maybe its a terrible idea. its really late and my brains a bit foggy.

actually, that's what i was going to say...

Methinks the 2nd DP slot should be for domestic players, which is to say one of your DP’s must be American or Canadian. Seems like to best solution to me… in fact it seems so logical, I’ve convinced myself it’ll never happen! ;-)

...that's MISTER Keller to you!!!

Its so obvious...

that people named Jake should be running the league. We are clearly the smartest.

MLS believes that such a rule would violate US labor law

I don’t know why MLB is allowed to treat Canadian, US and PR amatuers as draftable, but not other nations.

It may be because MLB has anti-trust exemptions

Maybe ?

Maybe it is the richest teams that are pushing for it ( and have one to begin with ) ?
Let me answer…YES.

IF, IF there is going to be a second DP, they should make it US/Canada players only. So the National teams guys stay here. If the USA does well in the World Cup, does this help MLS with most of the starters playing Europe. I probably would have done the first DP that way.

second dp

while we are on the topic, what would Seattle have to give up to get another teams DP? would we actually do that? is it worth it under the current structure?

under the current rules doesn’t a second DP count for less against the cap than the first DP?
