Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

"We’ve had a lot of conversations with Fredy, especially now that the transfer window has passed," Hanauer said on Monday’s edition of ExtraTime Radio. "We’d like to see him here for lot of years and if that means using a Designated Player slot on him, we won’t be shy about doing that.

"Blaise Nkufo aside and the success he’s having, we do like the idea of focusing energy on younger Designated Players and, from a financial standpoint, it makes sense because if we bring one in, we maybe can sell the player out and it’s good for everyone."

Simon Borg interupts our US Open Cup Final with news that Montero May be 3rd DP

But also a little bit about Montero's motivations.

He wants to be on the Colombian National Team and he wants to win a few Trophies.

Like the US Open Cup, the MLS Cup, the CCL and maybe an MVP for himself.

I love MLS 3.0

I have no problem whatsoever with locking up Fredy

Somewhere I forgot he was only 23. He is the most electrifying sports figure in Seattle right now (not named Felix Hernandez) in any sport.

I'm also in favor of this

But can we also keep Alonso? Zak? I’m afraid for both of them (as they’ve had fantastic years) that they may wander off.

I’m not at all familiar with draft rules in MLS – how long do we have Zak under team control?

Still, I’m salivating at the idea of Montero and Nkufo giving defenders trouble for years.

Nkufo will only be here 1 more year, I think

At least, that’s what his contract was for IIRC. Alonso I don’t think is going anywhere else soon. Zak could get some offers from Europe after this season, but as of yet I don’t have the feeling we should be super worreid (maybe we should, maybe that’s just wishful thinking). Montero is the guy I think we have to be most worried about losing. I’d be happy with him as a DP. I think he’s just going to keep getting better.

Young Core

If we can somehow hold onto Zak, Montero, ALonso, Ianni and Hurtado for a long time we’ll have a solid core of players in important positions. It would be an amazing team to watch once all of those players hit their prime. Combine that with the years of playing together. So many happy thoughts!

It would be nice to pay him more next year

but not DP. Max contract. And then DP him after Nkufo leaves. But do what needs to be done. I suppose we’ll have three DPs sometime, anyway.

So will cutting Noonan, Marshall and Vagenas.

You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.

Sigi still has faith in Vagenas at least

I really wonder what the fate of those other two will be. Marshall just needs to retire, and Hurtado put back in.
