CONCACAF made the decisions, not USSF. But hard to say why. There are other stadiums with artificial surfaces represented so it’s not that. And there’s only one game date that overlaps with the Mariners, so that can’t be it either.
Now Seattle does have a relatively small Hispanic population, particularly in relation to the other cities selected. Since the Gold Cup is always in the US, perhaps CONCACAF is trying to provide more opportunities for fans of other nations to attend?
