State of Cascadian Soccer
Lower than MLS soccer in America/Canada/Caribbean is always in a state of flux. In light of that Falk just posted a look at the Northwest PDL of 2011. Sadly Eastern WA is empty, as is all of Oregon not Timbers related.
Below the break are simple tables broken down by tiers on the pyramid
Major League Soccer
North American Soccer League
- Vancouver maintains rights to team. Inactive for 2011
MLS Reserves
- Seattle Sounders
- Vancouver Whitecaps
- Portland Timbers
USL Pro - absent from West besides a team in LA
Premier Development League (PDL)
- Abbottsford Mariners
- Victoria Highlanders
- Vancouver Whitecaps Residency
- North Sound SeaWolves
- Kitsap Pumas
- Washington Crossfire
- Tacoma Tide
- Portland Timbers U-23s
National Premier Soccer League (NPSL)
- French Soccer Academy (Sebastien Le Toux owner)
- Southern Oregon Fuego
If you can figure out why Portland and Vancouver are operating teams outside of the MLS umbrella you would be as smart as they are. Portland does not have an Academy at this time, so they may be using their PDL side as a stop-gap for their 18 year olds that might become HGPs. That would put a lot of pressure on those kids though playing in a league with players that are typically four years older.

I had no idea that Le Toux owned an academy team
I wouldn’t have thought he had the money or the time having played in USL and then MLS.
NPSL is a semipro-ish league
Le Toux and his partner run the Academy out on Whidbey. It is youth directed.

And just for kicks, the NSSL
Columbia River FC (Pasco, WA)
Chelan Warriors FC
Yakima United FC
Seattle Stars FC
Tacoma FC
Shelton Timberland FC
Capital City FC (Olympia, WA)
Oregon FC (Portland, OR)
At least Capital City FC is looking into joining the PDL in the next few years, they are already working on joining the USP Super Y league.
Should we list the GSSL too?
;)

Capital City FC
Accepted into Super-20 League (USL):

I'm stoked to see the purely amatuer aspect of USL continue to grow
They do that part so well. Also it compliments the Academy system/league by USSDA.
But, I know someone who covers the non-pro side of things so much better than I can. ;)

Super-20
Looks like most if not all of the other Super-20 teams in Cascadia will come from BC clubs. Capital City have been told they will be traveling a lot in 2011. Yeah, the Super-20 is a nice niche to fill. Sometimes I wonder though about how many players (especially on the men’s side) will actually fall into the 17-20 age bracket when PDL could take the better ones at that age. (PDL is U-23 with some exceptions). Some think Super-20 is more for youth clubs who want to keep their recent U-18’s for a couple more years…wuthout the cost of having a PDL side.
Also PASL-Pro for indoor
Tacoma Stars, Kitsap Pumas, and the Wenatchee Fire. I think that’s it.
Nos Audietis
PCSL
IIRC, the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency is under-20 (with many much younger), explaining their 6th place finish in the Northwest Division the last 2 years.
You could include the PCSL:
Athletic Club of BC
Kamloops Excel
Khalsa Sporting Club
Okanagan Challenge
Vancouver Thunderbirds
Victoria Highlanders Reserves
Victoria United
שלום
I can't even name the last Idaho semi or pro team
I’ll see what I can find.
