Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

It seems that a Swiss/Congo international is out of contract from one of my favorite teams - FC Twente. Unfortunately the CAM (Akram) that they aren't playing isn't one of them.

If the Nkufo rumors are true it would be a guy that is known for using his head, and a bit surprising for his 34 years is still getting playing time (450 Minutes since Jan 1 with a goal) for a club that is currently one of the better ones in Europe. He has been playing the CF in a 4-3-3, which would generally slot well for the TF in the Arrow.

Nkufo has serious pedigree

Twente and Netherlands League

Twente is a good/great team right now. That’s a plus in Blaise Nkufo’s column. He gets playing time, and last Fall scored quite a bit for both club and country.

He hasn’t put up the goals lately though, and the Netherlands’ Eredivisie is a decent league in Europe, but quite top heavy with Ajax and Twente at this time.

Switzerland did win their Group in WC’10 Qualifying, but look at the members of that group and see how like the Hex it is, strongish at top and very weak the rest of the way.

Nkufo would be an upgrade at TF in place of Jaqua. If Seattle can sign him with out having to get a DP slot i would say go for it.

Jaqua didn't end the season as a Target Forward

And I don’t expect him to start the season in that manner. I expect we will see him as the Right Mid when he takes the pitch.

The “forwards” will be Ljungberg in a Withdrawn position, and Montero as the “Target” but really just the even further forward type. I guess you could call it a Striker.

Well of course but if Nkufo comes here it’ll end Jaqua shot at ever being the starting TF again for seattle. So Jaqua better well get used to and start producing at Right Mid.

fc Twente

If you have questions on this guy’s finishing, Go to the FCtwente site and watch the highlights between FCTwente and Sparta Rotterdam. Strong and agressive. I could see him doing it for a couple more years. Go to http://www.fctwente.nl/eredivisielive/ then, click “populair” , watch the Sparta vs FCTwente video. FCTwente is wearing away blues and he is Number 9. Enjoy

The more I look

the less likely this looks.

He’s still putting up goals at Twente (who will be in the UEFA CL next year) and has on pitch performance quite similar to Juan Pablo Angel (nearly 2M$ contract).

Now, I don’t think that Blaise NFuko has the name recognition that JPA does, and certainly does not represent an ethnic group that would boost attendance, but he certainly makes more than a 500K$ max figure with FC Twente.

He is also the third highest valued player with his Agents. They represent almost solely Swiss players (one Swiss/American), but none are in the USA yet, most are in Swiss, Austrian, German leagues. This just doesn’t seem probable.

Notice the agent did not say

that they have talked?

And the agent has no experience dealing with MLS or the A-League, considering the unique salary structures of those leagues I think that is important in these things.

He’s never dealt with a “max player salary” before, so why wouldn’t he wait until Vancouver is in the League?
