Sounders Reserves side fall to FC Midtjylland 3-1

Zakuani scored with what reads like good interplay between he, Vagenas and Predido.  Here's the game report. For me it was more intriguing to see who played where.

    Predido
    Fucito/Montero
Nyassi/Zakuani       King/Estrada
    Vagenas/King
    Wallace/Vagenas
Wahl       Neagle
  Scott   Parke/Wallace
    Carillo/Lane

That looks really familiar to the guess that I put out yesterday. The main difference being Nyassi's health and Neagle at Right Back. I like testing Wallace out as an Ianni like player, and it made sense for Zakuani and Estrada to get time.

What do you think of the "reserves" at this point?

Jeff Parke

I would expect him to get a run during the 5th place match tomorrow as he’s healthy and needs more evaluation than any other player

Nathan Sturgis

Perhaps most interesting was who didn’t play, namely Nathan Sturgis. Given this and Sigi’s comments in interviews this preseason (and the playing time Dave has been tracking for him), he appears to be moving up on the depth chart for us. What little I saw of him last year in the midfield (which was I think our home game vs Chicago) he really looked like he belonged out there, so I take this as a very good development…especially given he’s only 22.

Seeing us with Sturgis (22), King (23), Alonso (24) and Evans (24), and I’m starting to feel pretty good about the state of our midfield in, say, 2 – 3 years time. Of course there is Zakuani (22), but I suspet he’s going to want to test out Europe one of these days.

Wahl

Sounds like 2 goals were scored just running up his side and beating the keeper… Not good. That’s what Rosenborg did also in the 2nd minute.

I assume Sturgis didn’t play because he’ll be playing with the starters tomorrow. And Parke probably got pulled because he’ll see a half tomorrow (and the Nyassi/Zak combo as well)

Wish we could get some video. Just reading about what happened is not very useful.
