"But the real exciting time for all of us is in 2011, when you join with Vancouver (B.C.) and match up with Seattle and I think give us what this country has never had, which is a true epicenter of passion for the sport," Garber said.

"Seattle is continuing to surprise us all. They haven’t announced it yet, but they’ve sold out their available season tickets (for 2010). They’re now at 32,000 and expect to go well north of 40,000 for their attendance."

From Oregon Live

The MLS Commissioner expects Seattle to average more thank 40k.

That's a FOUR followed by four ZEROES.

Does he know something we do’nt I thought attendence was capped at 35-36k with just the lower upperbowl being filled? Or is he talking about 2011?

That's what I wondered.

Can’t get to 40k with the current configuration.

Well he knew we sold out the 32K season tckets and I didn't know that

But my first reaction when I read that was the same as yours and Cornchops.

Romero is reporting there are still season tickets available

Garber mis-spoke. This is all likely hullabaloo over nothing.

Maybe he's counting friendlies

He might mean all Sounders soccer at Qwest. If you factor in the friendlies we probably will top 40,000 per game average.

Or perhaps he does know something we don’t.

by WendellGee on Feb 4, 2010 11:56 PM PST reply actions

Yeah, if you factor in the friendlies, it's just over 40,000

That’s assuming a regular MLS configuration of 36,000 and full sellouts of 65,000 for the three friendlies. With those numbers, you get an average of 40,833.

Logic

If you look at last year, they sold 22,000 season tickets,
partial season tickets, lets say 4,000,
that equals 26,000 " season " ticket holders.
So they sold 5,000 above that per game ( MLS only ). With seemingly huge demand behind it.

So 32,000 + 5,000 = 37,000, but our current stadium only holds 36,500, pretty close.

BUT if 96% of the season tickets renewed, that equals 25,000 + 8,000 on the waiting list = 33,000, so now you are 1,500 short.
Not that hard to see a scenerio where they hit 40,000+
They will have to open up more 300 level, as they will not get rid of the lucritive XBOX tarp, IMHO.

Please let the rest of the league catch up.

As far as I know the configuration is set at around 36K

It’s possible they’ll open up some more seats, but I think it’s more likely that the club is counting the friendlies.

Crazy

Who here things it crazy to be almost two months out and completely sold out, without opening more seats ?
I do.
They would open the Hawk’s Nest in a second, but they make $$ off of them over and above what they would make in tickets.
Someone on this site, said they should open up a section at a time. Cutting off opening sections maybe a week or two before each game. Still have the demand, might miss the game…but still maximize capacity. I think this is a great idea. It might ruin your, sold out every game in history claim, but I think they can sell a lot more tickets than they are.
