While Kasey Keller is the clear starter, there was an open competition for the backup role between Boss and Chris Eylander before the team's second season begins.
"It was up for grabs," said Dutra. "It was a position they both competed for, and we believed in Terry ... He was able to win that spot."
Seattle Times Joshua Mayers has more quotes from Dutra as well
I guess the only question left is what happens to Eylander. Could he be kept but on the IL, just for insurance? Or does the club look to a developmental player for keeper #3? Or would you stick with a pool keeper for that insurance?

Do we really need three keepers?
I would stick with the pool. It seems a reasonable gamble. Is a developmental 3rd keeper going to be any better than a pool keeper?
We have others who need to take that roster spot.
Hopefully Eylander catches on somewhere. Injuries have doomed him.
Ugh
Can’t say that I agree with this decision. Boss never started a USL 1 match, much less a MLS game. Eylander is younger and has excelled at a higher level (college and pro) than Boss. Yes, Eylander was hurt most of last year, but based on his generally healthy past, I figured it was an aberration. Maybe the Sounders medical staff knows something, but I hope this isn’t a move that comes back to haunt us.
