Szetela waived by DC United
Should the Sounders try to acquire the former US youth national with Euro and MLS experience? He's been a CM, RM and CAM in his time with 4 pro clubs. Szetela and Sigi have experience with the U-20s and the Columbus Crew.
Ives has stated that Szetela is now healthy, but got "Pipped" .
What is a recently injured, but once highly prized player such as Danny Szetla worth in this labor environment? We can't know until it happens. I doubt he makes it through waivers though.

What would be the cost the Sounders face if they sign him?
And are they still under the cap to sign players?

He made 90k last year
Not a huge amount, but not chump change in this league.
But since no one knows what the cap, nor roster limit will be, things get dicey.

Yes
I watched him play in the U20 world cup a couple years back when it was hosted by Canada, when Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, and Fredy Adu were on the team. He was a future star at the time. It sounds like he’s fallen on the wayside a bit. I bet we could pick him up at a lower price and work him into a solid contributor.

He’s useless as a right midfielder. He has no speed, nor any inclination to run at defenders or cross. Szetela wants to play combination passes and get past people as part of a pass-and-move approach. He showed last season that he can’t adapt that to a wide role in MLS.
I still think he can amount to something as a central player, but his attitude is a big issue from all accounts (this was rumored to include provoking a fight with Burch last season). Maybe he can learn how to be a pro from Ljungberg, or maybe he comes in and hurts your morale.
I am, of course, hoping that you guys or another team gives up too much to get his rights.
Probably Not
Danny’s biggest issue right now is the fact that he doesn’t come with a small price tag. Until he realizes that his stock has dropped a bit and gets a little more realistic about his value, he’ll be hard-pressed to find an MLS team that will take him. DC absolutely would have kept him but for that.
