Golden Scarf Goes Democratic
If you are a season ticket holder, or the rare member of the Sounders Alliance you received this email about a week ago.
Sounders FC Alliance Members -
You voted on it, you got it - 13 fans will receive Golden Scarves during 2010 home matches.
Now we need your help in determining which fans will receive Golden Scarves...Tell us why you think you should receive the Golden Scarf. We'll ask for information on your history with the Sounders, community involvement, soccer involvement and favorite Sounders moment.
Our Golden Scarf committee will whittle nominations down to 65 and then assign five nominees to each of the 13 match dates. Then we'll let you vote on who should receive the Golden Scarf.
For more information visit SoundersFC.com.Deadline to submit nominations is April 30th.
I'm on the Golden Scarf Committee, and so are the rest of your Alliance Council members. We've grown over the offseason, and are meeting with ownership next week.
So today I would like some of your input - how should we judge who gets to be a finalist for the Golden Scarf? What would you like me to bring forward to the Sounders ownership?
Bart Wiley on the change in the awarding of the Golden Scarf "We’re excited about fan nominations for the Golden Scarf and look forward to the process playing itself out. Fans voted this system and will have a direct say in who receives the scarf."
Honestly I'm excited to be part of the process as well. It was a great moment when I was out on the pitch to represent you, and now I look forward to having a small bit of infuence on who gets the honor in the future.
Again, two topics in comments please
What kind of things should influence which fans receive the Scarf?
What would you like the Council to discuss with Ownership?

would it be wrong?
If I nominated myself for the Sept. 9th match against RSL.
My only history with the Sounders is enjoying both our matches with you last year and attending a couple USL Sounders matches back in the late 90’s when I lived up there. I was there for the MLS Cup, a great day.
I am very involved in my local soccer community, I spend countless hours focused on MLS soccer both blogging and taking pictures.
My favorite Sounders Moment was this
Sorry it really was funny. Oh by the way I love the tradition, you guys and gulls up there keep fighting the good fight.

Depth of Community Commitment
I’d say that it’s important that the person who receives the scarf be involved with the community in some capacity and to have made a mark through their extraordinary efforts. Like what? Coaching (and sport), donation of time and effort to the community, Involvement with activities such as Special Olympics/education, etc. But I don’t think the award should be based on just that. If we had a known member of the fan base who has been a devoted and very vocal/involved fan for a long, long period of time (such as me!!—totally kidding), I’d love to see that rewarded.
Let the ownership know that at least some fans will be VERY offended if they go the way of replacement players. The integrity of the game is everything at this point and bringing in replacements is not only self-serving, it devalues ownership’s unspoken devotion and pricipals as they apply to the game. Right now it’s important to take the high road imo.
Ticket bumps.
I’m fine paying more for my tickets, but I want to see where that extra money is going. Can there be an agreement to keep ticket prices on hold, or at least limited by, the increase in the yearly salary cap? They make plenty of money, unless the money is going towards the on field product there is no need to keep charging more.
Supply and demand
Fans in Seattle saw prices go up because demand. Here in Salt Lake we had OK number 4th in the league for season tickets, and a good percentage based on population, but the team wanted more so they dropped prices and added more tickets and the results have been good.
It all comes down to supply and demand, quit being so popular up there and prices will go down.
No way
Are you saying that your beloved Sounders would keep demand high by not selling the seats in the 300 level? How dare they, I really think they don’t want pissed off fans who would be mad at the view. I have to say when I went up there before the Cup match, I wouldn’t have paid 100 bucks for season tickets up there.
Which is why you never see soccer teams
with stadiums larger than 25,000 anywhere in the world.
I’d take the 60,000th best seat in Qwest over the same in any other stadium of World Cup Final size in the world.

Doesn't make sense
After only 1 season yall have the best fan support and traditions in the MLS. Wish Houston could be like that.
my wishes are smaller
I just wish that the rest of MLS cared as much as Houston (well, except for Toronto, RSL, LA Galaxy, Philly)
