Weeknight Pregame Activities
So, Match Day One 2010 is tomorrow night, on a Thursday. It is First Kick for the entire league again. But on the fairly rare weeknight games I wonder how people pre-game?
I'm also asking this just to let you know that I will be pre-gaming at Elysian Fields, as I often do. I should have my sign, likely the Golden Scarf so you can find me, and ideally the staff will know where I am. If I can get enough people we may have our own space.
I found out that the League itself will be using the Elysian during the day, and for some pre-gaming as well.
ECS will be at Fuel and McCoy's Firehouse
GFC will be at Fado
NES will be at Swannies (IIRC)
Some people will find little tailgating niches, others will just work late.
How do you attack a weeknight match?

There is only one way
We all know it, if your boss is reading your posts fine don’t admit it,
WE START THE WEEKEND EARLY !
At home or pub.
Pints. That’s all that’s required. Lots and lots of pints. The darker the better. Mmmm… Porter!
So many choices
I have to say I did enjoy the food and staff at FxMcRory’s during the MLS cup, but Elysian fields holds some great memories from our first trip up to Seattle:
and
it looked more like a RSL joint than a Sounders joint:
You guys have fun up there, and show the Union a proper MLS welcome. I wish I could have made it up there but I will be mid trip on my was to San Jose to watch the champs.
Temple Billiards
We originally started hitting this place because it actually had some elbow room and you usually could get a seat. It seems by the end of last season a lot of other people started thinking the same way and now it’s just as crowded as most other spots. Still has good pizza. Taking Friday off work (b-day) so this is going to be a fun night and a great way to kick off an extended weekend!

Leave work early is step one
Generally we assemble at my friend’s apartment on 2nd and Jackson. If we’re going out, it’s either the Elysian or the Central Tavern (the servers are always, uh, perky, if you catch my meaning). We used to go to The Collins Pub, but after several run-ins with horrendous service, abandoned it.
Strange
I routinely head to The Collins Pub and the staff there never fails to provide the best service that I’ve ever had. Sorry that you had a negative experience. Now if only they would stay open later than 11…
I'd agree about the sketchy service sometimes at Collins. I do enjoy it there, though.
I fucking hate you Mariners

I can handle a rogue server
but when the manager/owner comes to my table and makes it seem like it’s my problem that his credit card system is down, well that’s when I don’t come back. Too bad because the food and atmosphere are quite good.
Well done on finding the perky servers.

Opening Day
should be a holiday – I observe accordingly and won’t be at work on Thursday or Friday. I’ll be at Fuel with the ECS, arriving sometime around or a little before noon…

Can't get down from Bellingham fast enough to pregame.
But I’ll say hi on the way to my seats. Up the 214!
On another note, do you think we are doomed to have every Thursday First Kick and every Thursday playoff game at our own Qwest Field? The league knows we’ll sell out on a weeknight.
Though of course I’ll be there, it does take an extra effort on a weeknight, and it’s only fair to let us have some weekend games. Does MLS think all Western Washington soccer fans have infinitely flexible work schedules?
Seattle wouldn’t have gotten the Thursday playoff game if Seattle was seeded first or 2nd in the west. So MLS has no control over where Seattle end up in the standings.
Yes, I remember.
But we’ll see when we have to play this October. It’s a conspiracy!
Weeknights are hard
Weekends I am usually at Fado before and after. Weeknights, my buddy and I ride down (our season tix are the same package under his name) and he usually can’t leave till 3. We usually end up at Pyramid, sometimes Elysian. Pyramid’s easier because it’s right by the entrance that gets to GA quick.
Although now I feel stupid reading that Cornchops comes down from B-ham. We’re just coming from work in Everett :\
Huskies tip at about 4:30
So I am going to try and get to Pyramid and watch most of the game there. Depending on how UW does, I may have to miss kickoff
Gotta watch them dawgs!
I tend to favor McCoys. The BBQ isn’t bad (Longhorn was better). And I can always get a Stella in a fine plastic cup.
I like Fuel if I’m wifeless. Wife doesn’t care as much for it…to quote an lady friend, “it smells of beer and men.”
Good beer at Elysian, but I’m not fond of the food.
I like Pyramid, if I can get there early enough for a table. Good beer and good eats.

… by making sure the owner of my company is also a season ticket holder! Our office is closing shop after lunch to walk down to Fuel together; however we’ll see if he’s as gracious the next morning as he was the afternoon before, since he doesn’t drink like I do. Uhoh.
