Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Straight after the game we went to the ER to get my spine x-rayed as I couldn’t and still cant sit or lay on my back. Luckily no fractures. Only bone bruising. The doctor compared the injury with an NFL injury when someone uses their helmet to crash it into someone’s spine. Hopefully ill recover quickly

From the "Dishonest" Freddie Lungberg's website

Emphasis is my own. Nowak, time to eat some crow.

Even better, issue a formal apology

And MLS would do well do fine him and Stahl as well. Those kinds of attitudes can’t be allowed to stand.

All Cards are reviewed and fined

At the Supporters Summit the USSF head of referees talked about the process. I expect that Stahl will get a hefty fine. The standard for a Yellow is ~500$ IIRC, but these were more than standard yellows.

But will Nowak get any discipline

His behavior was, at best, unprofessional. He’s making excuses and blaming the victim when his player came very close to causing permanent, life-changing injury. That shouldn’t be acceptable from a coach.

When I watch the replay it’s hard to see how he got hit that hard. Now, I’m not at all saying he didn’t get hit that hard or that I think Freddie would ever fake something like this, because I don’t believe he would. It’s just hard to see on the replay (at least for me) how he got hit that hard. I just hope he can play next week… bone bruising isn’t something heals fast.

Never saw the replay

But I watched it happen at the game. He got laid out and was down, not really moving. After watching an injury reel prior to the game of heinous soccer injuries, it freaked me out.

Agreed

When I saw it at the match, I was pretty worried. When I saw the replay at home on my DVR I couldn’t figure out how he got hurt so bad. No matter what angle you look at, what actually happened is kind of obscured by someone. Freddie isn’t one to cry wolf, though.

BTW, interesting to see he singled out Fucito on his blog. In his 14 min appearance, he looked good and probably should have drawn a hand-ball penalty in the box on his shot.

Freddie also talks about the atmosphere

and speaks about one player specifically. Not a ton of words, but to get a mention on the DP’s blog is a big deal.

Tailbone

My impression from the replay is FL was hit in the tailbone. If you look for him to be hit in the back you won’t see anything.
