Fredy's Fabulous Free Kick Gets Rewarded
Remember Montero's 41 yard blast? Back when we thought that a win could be had in Dallas? Before the performance in Toronto, or the friendly announcments. Montero won theGoal of the Week.
The Colombian’s stunning free kick from 40 yards against FC Dallas last Thursday night earned him 43 percent of the fan vote. Colorado Rapids veteran midfielder Pablo Mastroeni came in second with 25 percent of the ballots. Peter Lowry, Sacha Kljestan and Marko Perovic finished well behind the pace.
It isn't his first GotW, and it won't be his last.
Is there anyone else on this club that should be taking free kicks from within 45 yards?

From what I hear, he could be the left footed counter to Montero.
I honestly don't know
I haven’t seen him on the set-play, except for receiving a single corner in traffic. He scored – header.
Or are you just being snarky? Which could be funny

No I'm not
I heard he had a rocket of a left foot.
That's the rumor
His left foot is a killer. His sick goal against KC was his weak right foot.

It should be Montero on the ball from within 45. If Freddie is really sick of being beat up all the time, I think he should gladly let Fredy take the kicks. This is something that can make other teams think twice about fouling us…

Thanks for the question at the end.
I have been increasingly frustrated with Freddie’s inability or unwillingness to ever put free kicks on goal. Yeah it is nice and all that he is willing to pass, but you have to go for the goal from time to time and it seems that when he does shoot he tries for the perfect shot and never makes the goalie work. I would prefer Fredy take these kicks much more often from now on.
He doesn’t do it that often, but it’s not that uncommon, either – there was that rebound goal that Marshall scored last season (off of KC?) where the rebound was off of Freddie’s corner that almost went into the corner and I’d argue that Marshall’s goal this season in SLC was probably also Freddie’s goal – I’m not sure that anyone actually even touched that ball at all and it was in the corner of the goal. So it’s not like he never does it. And given how (relatively) successful the Sounders have been with Freddie on corners, I don’t think it’s a personal failing.
