Match Day Quick Reference Card

Updated quick reference card

UPDATE: We've fixed the bench, as well as tweaked the colors in an attempt to make it easier to read. Thanks for the overwhelmingly positive feedback. It makes it easy to want to do this stuff in the future when I receive such constructive and encouraging comments.

Feel free to do whatever you want with this. If you have any suggestions for improvements (can you read the colored fonts?), drop us an email. We'd like to make these a staple of your pregame routine.

This looks great. I really like it.

The red on the purple clashes somewhat. Maybe go with more of a pastel red, a little closer to pink like this:

It doesn’t clash as much.

I was trying the match the actual colors, but you're right

Even on their logo it looks weird. I’ll lighten it up for gameday. Thanks.

I figured that's what you were going for.

I tried to get it close to that color, also. Maybe you could go with more of the maroon on the outer edge of their shield, but I’m not sure how well it would show up on the purple.

please start noonan

i like that you have Noonan in the starting lineup. If Levesque isn’t on LeBench….I will have to LeScream!

Awesome!

Will this be across the SB blogs, or just Sounders?

BayAreaRefugee and I are trying to figure that out

It will be at RSLSoapBox for certain

Perfect

I am liking this a lot. Kudos

Did they change formations?

I thought RSL ran 5 in the midfield last year.

by blakec on Apr 9, 2010 11:54 AM PDT reply actions

I got that from RSL Soapbox

Don’t know if Beckerman’s position is totally right, but I’m pretty sure they’re playing with four mids. If I get better info, I’ll change it for gameday.

Last year they ran a 4-3-3 for about the middle third of the season

but this year it is the 4-diamond-2

Formations

As a new soccer fan, I’m not super familiar with the different formations. If there is room in future reference cards, could you include the numbers for the formation as well? I grok numbers better than seeing the layout. For the Sounders, I can’t tell if we’re running a 5-4-1 or a 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 or…

I love the idea. I’ll want to print these out for home games too.

Good idea

And easy enough. I’ll find somewhere for that. Thanks.

we'll just have to decide what to call it

because they tread the line on a couple different standard nomenclatures.

At times

I don’t think Alonso can tell if he is in a 5-3-2 or a 4-4-2. :)

This is really spectacular! It’s super useful and something I’d totally be willing to hand out to people while watching the game. Fantastic job man!

Just so you know where we're going...

Looks like if there’s one problem, it’s the colors-on-colors fonts. To fix this, I think we’ll probably go with black or white numbers for everyone. As pretty as I think it looks with multiple colors, I don’t know that it’s the best for reading and reprinting.

Keep the blue/green for Sounders

It’s just RSL that is not so easy to read.

by agtk on Apr 9, 2010 10:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually

I kind of like the white numbers.

This is really great! I love it! Thanks!

Here is the updated version

It is great work by you guys, I really appreciate it. RSL does play 4 midfielders but it is more of a diamond with the outside guys pinched in more than normal. We did play with a 4-3-3 for a while when we hit a rough stretch midseason, and then we switched back as our personal changed and guys started playing better up top.

Updated version is great. The white does help the legibility.

Thanks for this

Really, really excellent work. I’ve subscribed via RSS in hopes that you’ll be doing these for future matches. Great layout!

by jelky on Apr 10, 2010 11:18 AM PDT reply actions

We will

And it looks like I’ll be doing them for RSL Soapbox as well.
