the gamethread......outside of Seattle is dead
for whatever reason, I found myself looking at DCs blog: Black and Red United. I took a look at their Gamethread from saturday's loss to colorado. 7 comments. Really? only 7 comments.
SounderatHeart's gamethread from Saturday's win at NY: 524 comments. granted the Sounders were on the road so most people were near a computer. but even the LA game had nearly 100 comments. Columbus had 134....
maybe it was just the colorado game that DC fans weren't interested in......oh wait, the gamethread before against Dallas had a whopping 4 remarks.
pretty weak! especially for being the self acclaimed "most storied" team in MLS. June 10th can't come quick enough. Sure to get a free haircut after that match!
The MLS needs to find a way to get fans more involved. NY's blog Once a Metro doesn't even present a gamethread....
every team should sponsor a blog at SBNation.....and a gamethread
FanPosts only represent the opinions of the poster, not of Sounder at Heart.

SBN will get a blog for every MLS, and soon to be MLS team
SBN has added 5 MLS blogs since October and there will be more.
~50 comment in our thread were from visiting Red Bull fans as their blog is in transition right now. All of SBN’s soccer/football blogs are working at growing our readership.

Don't forget
that we are one of few areas in the country that can stomach this sport. Not to mention DC is 1-7. I guarantee you won’t see me on here after a 1-7 start.
Welcome to the Sound Pound...
I wouldn't revoke my fanhood or anything
if we sucked, I just wouldn’t be blogging about them. I’m a Sounder for life but I’m a fair weather blogger.

This behavior is pretty typical for SBN blogs.
Some blogs are wildly popular, and have incredible comment totals during their game threads and general discussion. The blog I frequent most, Japers Rink, regularly sees upwards of 500 comments on every post by the editors, and a few thousand each game thread.
I have found that the popularity of team blogs does not necessarily have direct correlation between the success of the team. More the nature of the city the blog is based in. If the city is very connected, and its blogosphere works in close tandem with the team they cover, the blog gets tons of traffic. Naturally the success of the team has lots to do with it, but the core group of readers and commenters will continue to visit, as long as the site produces real, quality, actionable content. As far as the MLS goes, well all you need to do is compare the SBN Mariners blog with this blog.

Most SBN blogs don't have Jeremiah running the show
He has really helped keep the conversation going. There have been a couple matches where most posters are at the game, leaving things around here pretty quiet (except for those of us who live East-side).
On that note, especially with MLS blogs you have to keep an eye out for whether the team is at home or away.
You also can’t compare across sports – plenty of folks on the MLB blogs have MLB.tv or follow along on Gameday, making it far easier for a broader geographical fanbase to participate.

The point on away games is spot on, more people near computers ect.
Though personally I am not a fan of the running commentary by the editors.
Though I suppose at this point we don’t have near enough commenters to actually hold a real discussion within the gamethreads.

chinsmd, perhaps you read B&RU because it is brilliantly written by charismatic gentlemen
Just a guess.
hardly
brilliantly written? you are no Jeremiah
i see that B&RU posted an advertisement for their gamethread. must be what drove you to SAH. you all are missing the point….you shouldn’t have to advertise your gamethread and beg people to comment in order to prove me wrong. I like to swing by opponents sites to gather more details on what their fanbases are saying leading up to a match…
