Match Day Quick Reference Card: Metapan vs. Sounders

Sounders vs. Metapan

As you may or may not notice, our starting lineup predictions are often times less than 100 percent accurate. Usually, they are based on a mix of what we've seen and personal biases. We've even managed to do a reasonably good job in U.S. Open Cup matches.

This CONCACAF Champions League is a whole other beast, though. On one hand, everyone involved in the Sounders is saying the right things. They are likening it to our version of the European Champions League. They are saying this is one of the biggest tournaments in our region.

Whether that means a "normal" starting lineup will play tomorrow remains to be seen.

Further complicating matters is the fact that at least 22 different players have started at least one game for the Sounders.

What the result is admittedly a semi-educated guess as to who will be in the lineup Wednesday against El Salvadoran champions Metapan. (And for what it's worth, our guess on Metapan basically just takes the players on their 20-man travel roster and plugs in the players with the most playing time into the starting roster.)

So who does the corners without Sturgis on the field? I can’t recall if Vagenas has very good service or not.

Vagenas was 3rd last year for corners

After FL and Seba

vagenas!?!

i’m hoping it doesn’t matter about his service, as it’s tough to take corners from the bench. I would really prefer if Sigi does not play him….

vagenas was taking corners today at practice

Marshall and Graham at CB?

Good grief, that should be a nightmare.

it would be

either marshall or graham and Ianni at CB if Hurtado didn’t torn his ACL imo.

I hope someone on the Sounders is watching the LA debacle and decides to make sure there’s a solid line-up out there. The Galaxy are getting completely smoked.

The Islanders are not Metapan

Sounders aren’t Galaxy. Tonight’s match has nothing to do with tomorrow.

True, but

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Galaxy expected to just more or less walk through the Islanders. Considering how good they’ve been so far this season, they at least had some expectations at home. At least it’s a reminder that the team needs to really show up and play their best no matter who the opponent – it wasn’t like the Galaxy were just putting their 2nd string out there, either.

I’d guess TFC would like to have gotten more than a single goal at home, too.

Giving up 4 goals

in a home game is not good for any team. The first tie breaker for champions league is away goals. For LA to move on they have to win the 2nd leg by 4 goals to avoid OT and possibly PKs. Its not looking good at all for LA.

Will the fans show up?

I hope that at least 7,000 more Sounder fans will buy game-day tickets tomorrow. The figure of just 13,000 tickets sold, presented by Josh Mayers, is somewhat disappointing. On the other hand, maybe tomorrow we can see who the real Sounder fans are.

I don't think they can do it on weekends

UEFA CL does weekdays too, except for the Finals

I won't fall out of my seat

if Boss starts instead of Keller. Not predicting it, but Sigi’s got to be thinking about it with the recent knocks Kasey has taken and 4 matches in the next 12 days.

Who to rest?

There’s a few other starters that have played a lot of minutes lately that Sigi has to be thinking of resting for future matches. Of particular concern for me are Zak and Riley.

Both put in a lot of minutes and a lot of effort last game. And Riley isn’t the youngest player anymore. Could we see a another start for Zach Scott tonight despite his poor play last game?

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Estrada

at least as a sub. He had a pretty decent showing in the friendly and he can’t play in MLS matches at the moment.
