Around SBN: How A Letter From Tom Coughlin Helped One Fan's Recovery

"We'd had conversations off and on with various entities. There wasn't really anything solid until the last couple of days. For Freddie's sake and the team's sake, we didn't want to drag this on all summer. A part of this was a timing issue, and we're very excited on getting Alvaro on roster."

Joshua Mayers with Adrian Hanauer

Most on this trade, and Ljungberg, but also one question about Fredy Montero.

Most interesting part of the interview
(So you didn’t have to pay that luxury fee did you and how does that affect matters for bringing in a third DP?) “We didn’t have to pay luxury fee, but that fee is not going to pie-center us on signing a third DP or not. The part that we would get pie-centered on the ability to manipulate the cap that first gets us space on the short-term but also allows us to keep to long-term future of the club in perspective. You can do the math, $335K times three is a million. With a $2.55 million salary cap, that’s close to 40-percent. I know it’s being done in other markers, and we may do it, but it’s a challenge.”

Translation: don’t hold your breath for that third DP.

Two Long Term U-25 South American Sounders?

Mayers just tweeted this vital nugget that didn’t make his post

Alvaro’s contract is for more than 18 months

Holy carp

Man I hope he can play tomorrow.

That seems more likely. Although...

Hanauer said, " Now Alvaro can play in San Jose."

Maybe we’ll see him as a sub tomorrow.

I hope so

Well, actually, I just hope Sigi isn’t too conservative. At this point I’d rather see him go for 3 or broke than settle for one point.

he is

eligible though cause we already played the first leg of the preliminary round

Up to 30 players per team (CCL rules) can be eligible

So Sounders had empty slots, and he isn’t tied to another club in the tourney.

Rules and Regs for CONCACAF Champions League

Here

The paragraph that seems to matter most to whether Alvaro can play

Teams will be able to inscribe a Roster List consisting of a maximum of 30
players (30-Player List) no later than seven (7) days prior to their first match,
at the start of the CCL season for the purposes of participating in Phase 1:
Preliminary Round and Phase 2: Group Stage. If the initial and succeeding
Roster Lists do not include the maximum 30 players, such Roster list may be
increased in a manner consistent with these Regulations, including 5.3 below,
provided the maximum of 30 players is not exceeded.

I read the part starting with “If the initial ….” to mean that since Sounders were not at the limit they can add a player at any time. “IF” being a qualifying clause in this case.

I will ask the team for clarification.
