Match Day Quick Reference Card: Sounders at Marathon

Sounders vs. Marathon

With no MLS match this week, we fully expect Sigi Schmid to roll out what would reasonably qualify as his best available lineup.

That means Blaise Nkufo starting alongside Fredy Montero up top (assuming Montero is fit), the standard back four and the now-established central mid pairing. The only differences from past weeks will be Alvaro Fernandez and Roger Levesque at the wide mids in for the injured Steve Zakuani and the suspended Sanna Nyassi.

Fernandez is an easy call, but Levesque is more of an educated guess. We think the veteran will get the call over Miguel Montano. The other possibility would seem to be using Nate Jaqua there, but he's yet to be deployed in the midfield this season and it would be an interesting choice for him to debut tonight.

Black and Red United's Chest Rockwell assures us that this lineup for Marathon is pretty likely (he'll also have a preview a little later this afternoon).

The game is at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on FSC and KIRO (97.3 FM).

No Nyassi?

I didn’t realize that cards would carry forward from the preliminary rounds. Seems like it would put teams at a disadvantage.

They do and it does

This was one of the things Sigi mentioned early on about the concerns over playing in the preliminary round.
