Match Day Quick Reference Card: Sounders vs. Chivas USA
Projecting lineups for any U.S. Open Cup game is difficult. Once it gets to this stage, that may be even more true. I'm not sure it's safe to really assume anything.
What we decided to do was go with the group on this one, at least for the Sounders lineup.
The overwhelming picks were Kasey Keller, Steve Zakuani, Nate Jaqua, Tyrone Marshall and Leo Gonzalez. Fredy Montero, Nathan Sturgis and James Riley also received relatively clear decisions. Where it got more contentious was at the second CM position, right wing and the second CB.
Jeff Parke narrowly beat out Taylor Graham; Miguel Montano got the nod over Mike Fucito; and Osvaldo Alonso is inserted via veteran tiebreaker over Mike Seamon.
Chivas USA uses a lot of internationals, so they're lineup is really guesswork since their normal rotation has eight and they can only use five in this match. It looks like they'll barely have enough U.S. players to field an 18-man team, and that will include several very young players with almost no experience.

Does USOC only allow 5 internationals on the pitch?
I see six internationals listed for your Sounders lineup: Zakuani, Marshall, González, Montero, Montaño, Alonso.
marshall doesn't count
he has green card

Have the Sounders confirmed the yellow kits for tonight?
I like the Electricity, even if I feel like I shouldn’t.
They haven't confirmed
But they’ve played every non-MLS games in Electricity. It would be kind of surprising if they didn’t.

or you'll get mad?
In all seriousness, I’d be surprised if he plays. I think he’s dropped behind Estrada and probably Fucito on the depth chart.

Mad…nah.
Frustrated more, I mean part of me realizes that this kid has tons of raw talent and works hard, and might need more playing time to better…relax and get in his rhythm.
And the other part of me really really wants to win this game and wants a stronger more dependable player on the wing.
Either way I am not going to be too worried who ends up on the pitch.

Not that I disagree
but why do you think that? I haven’t seen enough of either Estrada or Fucito to make that judgement, but I can say that I believe Montano has potential.
Based on who is making the 18
Montano hasn’t even made 18-man roster since his red card against Dallas, I think. Estrada and Fucito both have. He definitely has potential — probably one of the highest upsides on the team — but in terms of who is playing today, I think he’s kind of down the list.

Is Alonso an International?
Under MLS rules, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t count against the international roster slots. Not sure if the same applies in USOC.
Not positive
But I’m fairly certain Alonso counts against international slot in all competitions.

at the very least
As a Cuban defector he has asylum status, which doesn’t count against international slots in MLS. Could be different in the USOC, I dunno.
Interesting starters listed:
Starters: Kasey Keller, James Riley, Tyrone Marshall, Taylor Graham, Leo Gonzalez, Alvaro Fernandez, Osvaldo Alonso, Nathan Sturgis, Steve Zakuani, Fredy Montero, Nate Jaqua. Subs: Terry Boss, David Estrada, Michael Fucito, Roger Levesque, Jeff Parke, Zach Scott, Mike Seamon.
Montano not even in the 18, both wingers our normal starters and both CBs the reserves.
