Take Your Supplements
Updated with quotes from Chris Henderson.
The MLS Supplemental Draft, which is really just more of the SuperDraft as far as I can tell, kicks off at 11am Pacific today. We'll be documenting the developments here. No video for these Mr Irrelevants. Keep in mind that Fucito was taken in the 4th (which would now be the first round of the Supplemental) so it's possible to find players here. But anyone who gets picked in these rounds will be a long shot to impress the coaches enough to make an already stuffed Sounders roster.
Update 1: In the 1st Round Sounders select GK Josh Ford from UConn. One of the top keepers in the SuperDraft. Dave actually took him in the SBN mock. Sounders just got real deep at keeper with 5 good ones (counting Herman in the Academy).
Here's what Sounders Technical Director Chris Henderson had to say in a press release: "Josh Ford is a very athletic, quick keeper who comes up with big saves when you need them. He made some good reflex saves at both our combine and the MLS Combine, plus we had seen him a couple times during the season."
Update 2: In the 2nd Round the Sounders select Corey Attaway from UC-Irvine. MLS lists him as a Defender, though this college bio says Midfielder/Forward, so I guess that covers everything. ProPlayerPipeline grades him as a solid D.
Henderson: "Corey's a good, solid right back that we saw during the year. He's good on the ball, he had a solid combine in Las Vegas and because of (assistant coach and scout) Kurt Schmid's past involvement at UC Irvine we have a very good sense of his ability."
Update 3: In the 3rd Round the Sounders select local product Sean Morris from Seattle U.
Henderson: "Being local, we had a number of opportunities to see Sean Morris, a homegrown player from Seattle U. For him to get a chance with us is great."

I Don't Suppose the Audio is Streaming?
I know they did that for one of the previous drafts – I’d love to listen in…
Oh, and hi – I’m new here, but I’ve been a reader for a while.

Seattle's #11 is Josh Ford
Probably a familar name to readers of the site. He didn’t have a great combine, but he’s 5th year senior with good numbers

The
conference call is going faster than the person updating the MLS tracker can update
Actually it's a problem with their caching layer
It doesn’t expire the page out fast enough. You can add a ‘&x=y’ to the end of the URL to get a fresh one.

The fact that you were able to solve this so quickly is both a testament to you and a reminder of how bad that website is.
ha!
they need to hire you…

I didn't
think Seattle would take another GK.
Maybe their goal is to
Make all of the prospects compete for a spot on the roster to make sure they have quality for next year when Keller is gone.
Seems silly, though – because I don’t think anyone behind Keller is really prepared to start next year, one way or another, so they’re probably going to have to look outside anyway.

Yea
that’s probably what is going to happen.
i kinda like it
it allows the sounders to choose the best 3 keepers to make the roster.
hey we might not even have boss during the season
I guess it's the international roster spot
that no one wants to lose.
That and a horrible combine
I’m really surprised no one took a flier on him. He had a good college season.
Couple of passes in the last round
Why would you pass? Don’t even want to front for the plane ticket to fly the kid out to training camp? Waste of an opportunity.
Reminds me of the unprepared guys in your fantasy football draft.

I like the Galaxy's picks
I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2-3 of those guys stick as reserves. The Galaxy will need depth with all the money they’re going to be spending on old veterans.
Curtis Ushedo goes in the 3rd round of the supplemental
To a non-Canadian team. Wow, what a horrid mock draft pick by Simon Borg.
Not only possible
but a dream come true for some (and the teams). If Chris Wondolowski and Jeff Larentowicz play this weekend against Chile, they will be the first players to have ever moved from the supplemental draft to being capped. So there ARE gems out there!
These teams know 500 times what the mock panelists know
about individual players. Let’s be honest, how many of those guys have the mock draft writers actually seen? Even someone as well versed in the college game as you are would be hard pressed to find tape on a lot of these kids outside of highlight reels.
Ooops
that “you” was meant towards Dizzo. Reply failure!
Very true
Still it’s a fun off-season diversion. :-)
McInnes is at least worth the price of plane ticket out to training camp. Especially for those teams that passed in the last round. I mean, at least give the kid a chance to redeem himself after a crappy combine!
If you’re interested, here’s a highlight video of McInnes:
Yeah not gonna lie
I can’t figure out why you would “pass” either. Is there a limit to the number of people that can be invited to camps?
some of the passing teams don't even have 20 players on roster too
they have tons of space.
It almost makes sense to pass with 30+ players under control

Could it be a
“You aren’t gonna make the team anyways so we figure why get your hopes up?” type of deal? Seems like a really nice thing to do…not something usually seen in American professional sports hahaha
I would rather be told
You are not going to make the team but if you want to come to camp for a week and try anyhow, feel free.
I would think that is nicier than just not drafting them.
Same with me
At least you’d get the shot at making it.
love this pick
Ford had good career #’s at UCONN. more Shutouts than goals allowed. holds UCONN records for wins, consecutive starts and wins. and was 2010 Big East GK of the Year and All Northeast Region 1st team. like him!
What happens the second year
Do we still control the rights to Perdido and Brown? I would expect them to compete for spots this year. Perdido looked like he had a little game to him and I think he had a pretty good year at Kitsap.
