Seattle defender Baudet exploring other options
I guess no Baudet for us. Sounds like Adrian was pretty clear about that up front when the transaction was made. Also makes it sound like the team is pretty confident Cruz will work out.
Assuming we don't sign him, under the new CBA what are our options? We can hold onto his rights in MLS for one season, until the next reentry draft, right? But if he goes abroad or to US D2 or wherever, do we still hold his MLS rights for a year or forever or what? You'd have to think that we probably couldn't get much in a trade since any team would now know he's not really in our plans.

Wish him the best
I was never too excited about him, nor Veganas. But like the sound of the younger guy we got in the trade. I hope things work out well for all involved in the trade.
I think current CBA is that MLS rights are held for 2 years

How I understand it
Because Baudet lacks the minimum requirements to enter into the various Re-Entry Drafts, I think the Sounders may hold his MLS rights until they relinquish them. I doubt they’d be inclined to do that for free right now. We’d hold those rights whether he signed in Europe or D2.
I’d be willing to bet the Sounders wouldn’t need a whole lot in return for his MLS rights, but they would get something.

Interesting, thanks
Hopefully they’ll get something eventually. It seems like Baudet is probably good enough to start somewhere (at least 4 or 5 teams I could think of off the top of my head). My bet is he ends up back in Europe somewhere. If not, I hope we at least get a 3rd round pick or some allocation for him.
I would also think that if he does not sign overseas, he might become more valuable as the season goes along
If a team has a CB injury, he could be a decent option for a team in that he could either come in and start or provide good depth. I am thinking he could fetch either a 2nd or 3rd round pick or allocation money from a desperate team.
This is what Adrian seems to be saying at the end of the article.
he doesn’t fit into our plans, but he is our MLS property. … We’ll take it as it comes."
Calling anyone ‘property’ is insulting. I wish Adrian had choose his words more carefully.

Yeah, but how many times do you hear athletes called 'products'
As in he’s a product of so-and-so school? This isn’t so different. It isn’t polite, sure, but I’m not sure it’s actually insulting.
His ability to play soccer professionally really is their property since they have him under contract.
That is, unless the way MLS does things is different than in other professional sports leagues.
i wish him luck
he is starting quality on another team so i hope he finds the right team for him
Oh well.
I would have liked to have kept him for the time being as insurance in case Hurtado re-injured his knee or wasn’t ready, but the cost was always going to be an issue.
Best of luck to him and all that…
I was thinking of Parke as well and we all know the difference is that Parke
was counted on to be a starter way back when and Baudet is looked on to be the 4th CB.
