The Egyptian football association has postponed the next round of premier league matches as a wave of anti-government protests ran into a third day.
The matches, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, would have represented the start of the second-half of the league season, and will be played at a later date.
Just under two weeks from the US National Team facing a very good Egyptian team.
Here's the SBN Soccer Story Stream following a potential reschedule or move of that match.
I hope that the Egyptian team gets to play on that date. Sports can help unify a country as we saw with Iraq and their Asian Cup and Olympics runs. While there are certainly safety issues, there is little evidence that players would be attacked, nor that stadium would be attacked. Neither represent the oppression of the government.

The government might cancel the match
Even if it’s safe from the US team’s perspective, the Egyptian government might cancel the match to avoid 60k young people having a place to gather before going to to protest.
If Egypt was playing someone other than the US...
…like, I don’t know, Switzerland, or Norway, or some country that had little to do with Egypt’s politics, then I would hope the game could go on. But given that there are strong feelings about US political dealings in Egypt, I would rather not take the risk of sending our players to Egypt for a friendly.
