Monday Team Notes - Preseason Schedule and Departed Players
(Doh. Collided with Jeremiah's post. I'll leave the handy schedule table up, but to discuss the Departed Players, head to that thread.)
A couple of updates from the team today. Here's the official preseason schedule:
| When | Where | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Feb 8, 9:30am | Casa Grande, AZ | Real Salt Lake |
| Feb 10, 10:00am | Phoenix, AZ | Columbus Crew |
| Feb 12, 9:00am | Casa Grande, AZ | Chivas USA |
| Feb 21, 12:30pm | Orlando, FL | FC Dallas |
| Feb 22, 8:00am | Orlando, FL | Houston Dynamo |
| Feb 26, 11:00am | Bradenton, FL | Chicago Fire |
| Mar 4, 7:30pm | Starfire | Portland Timbers |
| Mar 6, 3:00pm | Starfire | Vancouver Whitecaps |
| Mar 9, 7:00pm | Qwest | Colorado Rapids |
(I've converted all times to Pacific)
So basically you've got a week of games in Arizona, then a week of games in Florida, then the Official Cascadia Rivalry Preseason Throwdown, then the Community Shield. The schedule is a little heavy given that the Sounders will be hosting the Galaxy for MLS First Kick on March 15th, which will be the 4th match in 11 days. So the team will have to balance the desire to show well in the Cascadia tournament and the Charity Shield versus the need to make sure the team is rested and prepared for the opener.

I'll be surprised
if any of the starters play much more than a half after the Timbers’ game.
Does anyone know whether any of these will be televised?
Also, do we know when the Reserves schedule will come out?

come to think of it, I don’t know the first thing about the Reserves or the league they will play in…
what do we really know?

We don't even know the full MLS schedule yet
My guess is that TV for any of the above games is unlikely. The Community Shield game will probably have inexpensive tickets and they will want to sell as many as possible (with proceeds going to charity and all) so they probably wouldn’t televise that game. The most likely game to be televised, I’d guess, is the Timbers game on FSN NW (if that’s where there games will continue to be televised this year, haven’t heard if they have a TV deal yet or what the deal is if they have one.)
Doubtful that PDX would get an FSN contract
Sounders already have a replay contract, and the Mariners play pretty much every night.
