Seatte Sounders at New England Revolution - Gamethread
In MLS the Seattle Sounders have yet to have a game in league play that didn't matter. Only the tail end of last year's CCL is at all similar. During that run the Sounders were able to get valuable playing time for Mike Fucito, Tyson Wahl, Alvaro Fernandez, and Zach Scott - players who weren't keys to the 2010 season, but have become so for MLS 2011. Tonight Sigi Schmid can use this game in ways similar to the Reserve League. He can test some new ideas, some new pairings and look at 2012 a little bit. The result is not vital.
Similarly, the New England Revolution aren't playing for this season. They will be fielding a very different lineup from the last meeting, one that will include their first HGP signing - Diego Fagundez. They are also trying to fine tune the integration of their first DP signing (Milton Caraglio) and American Benny Feilhaber. When neither team is desparate for results the play can become a display of one-on-one skills or down right chippy. That will influence the tactics as much as anything.
Sigi's men must stay healthy. They are trophies to be won, so expect that if core players start they won't finish the game. Secondly, the players that get a run tonight that are on the border (cut/stay or 1st/2nd team) must play the current version of Sounders soccer. They should attack the ball on defense and rapidly transition to offense through many ground level passes. Those who don't get much run with the regulars must show that they can adapt to being in and out of lineups, because even the best get that treatment in Seattle. Lastly, on defense this is not a Shalrie Joseph and 10 other guys team anymore. Do not take the Revs for granted. Even a single point here advances the cause of advancement in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
The game is on KONG 6/16/106 and 97.3FM with Arlo White on the call at 4:30 PM

Anyone know of any live webcast that will be showing the game?

Why move Alston from RB?
It just looks like they’ve messed up the formation. Joseph looks like he’s occupying the CDM space. Alston at RB. Guy at right mid. Fergundez up top.

if there really was any game for him to get some MLS game-experience, this was it. I hope Montero and Fernandez get subbed out early in the 2nd.

I’ve picked up watching soccer and the Sounders around the last world cup. And since then I have yet to figure out what the captain’s official and unofficial role is. Can someone explain it to me?

Veterancy/ Honorary title
The captain is also supposed to be the only player who can talk to the Refs about a certain call he made, I’m sure there is more that goes to it but that’s about the jist of it that I gathered from my teenage years playing soccer.

the Revs announcers tell me...
that if the Revs pressure they are going to “put it all over the Sounders” – chuckle chuckle
and as they were testing the microphones
the revs announcer said “this is jay testing the microphone”, and then in a sultry voice “this is jay trying to make it sexy”
Their level of confidence seems a excessive for an announcer when you're playing a team playing much better than yours
But I’ll give it to them as long as they use their sexy voice.

Kraft ownership is very nice
So nice of the Revs ownership to at least make an attempt to make the field look like a soccer pitch. You can only see shadows of the gridiron today. I’m not sure if they’re worried about the quality of the “product” or if the league shamed them into doing something about it.

Ahh, I see he just got a yellow. If he gets a second yellow, as far as I recall, it just counts as a red and he is suspended for one match. He would still be at 4 yellows in accumulation. That was sure a pretty goal crossing the ball just outside of the reach of Reis to the opposite post like that. By the way, Montero sure was lazy (sarcasm intended) in how he hustled to get to the ball.
