Seattle Sounders v San Jose Earthquakes - Gamethread

"We love you Keller. Yes we do. We love you Keller. We do."

Saturday night's game will be one of those where in a decade there will be twice as many people in the stadium as CenturyLink Field actually fits. Celebrating an American Legend in wearing a Seattle Sounders kit will do that. Much less significant is the contest for the Golden Boot featuring Fredy Montero and Chris Wondolowski, the MVP runs of any of three Sounders (Montero, Osvaldo Alonso, Mauro Rosales) and the least significant trophy Seattle can capture in a year the Heritage Cup.

In a game where neither side needs points so both teams can play a relaxed match and put on a show. Several San Jose Earthquakes will be battling for positions on the roster next year, so there may be a little more selfish attitude there, except that the team really wants Wondo to get a second straight Golden Boot. That will mean a lot of wide play serving it in, more often than not that will mean a turnover and an opportunity for Seattle to play its ball on floor counters.

The game is on FoxSoccer (national) and 97.3FM with Arlo White on the call at 7:30 PM

I’m sure firstrowsports.tv will have a link to an online stream though.

Never mind.

Just “coaches corner”. Playing news now. Guess I’m just excited…

Alvaro Fernadez

How is it that he has 8 goals and no assists this year? Never would have guessed that in a million years at the start of teh season.

First home league loss since July 10?

I think I remember something about that game…

You do all the work for us, Honey Badger, and we'll just eat whatever you find.

Watching at home

I had to choose between the Open Cup Final and this match. My wallet would not let me do both.

Drinking Newcastle. Wearing Keller’s white kit. Wearing Seattle v. San Jose scarf from last season (hoping it’s not a bad omen).

Wish I was there with you guys.

Goddamnit I hate Wondo

The Seattle Sounders are just reDQulous

by Nathan Dye on Oct 15, 2011 8:02 PM PDT reply actions

wow that was a bad touch.

I was hoping to see the shut out.

I now want Wondo to suffer extreme embarassment

Oh wait, he plays for San Jose. I guess I got my wish.

The ref has non-called 2 possible PKs

I’m probably bias being pro-Sounders, but either one could have been called a PK and no one would have been surprised.

The first row sports feed is so grainy that I thought a bundle of green streamers was a player.

I couldn’t understand why a Sounder was just standing there without moving.

We need about five subs tonight...

Wahl, Neagle, Ianni, and Hurtado (I don’t think he’s been as bad… it just looks to me like he’s having to clean up the rest of the back four’s messes, which leaves him looking bad since he’s the one having to make every awkward clearance) have been downright awful.

You do all the work for us, Honey Badger, and we'll just eat whatever you find.

defense could use improvement

Our defense has been pretty good most of the season. This is a pretty bad time for it to start breaking down.

by tksoundersfan on Oct 15, 2011 8:43 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

San Jose is playing well, but

I’m surprised we’re playing so lethargic again. We need a congested schedule.

by AlexM on Oct 15, 2011 8:48 PM PDT reply actions

I agree.

It might be different if we were playing for something, but we look a little off.

Mauro comes in

immediately gets fouled. Because that’s apparently how you defend him.

It's not Qwest specific

And honestly, when you aren’t sitting in front of a T.V. it’s hard to tell if a player is injured or trying to cheat his way into an advantage. Most fans are going to believe the wrong doing was on the opponent and not their beloved team.

In fact, if you dare take a look at one of the recordings of Zakuani’s broken leg they booed then too. And I doubt they were booing their own team.

san jose has an extra man on the field

He’s disguised in red. Seriously what are up with the calls tonight?

by tksoundersfan on Oct 15, 2011 9:07 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

He evidently hates momentum

I'm gonna be honest

I did not expect Ochoa’s first goal to be a slick shot on a fast break.

The Seattle Sounders are just reDQulous

Fredy Montero

Greatest (MLS) Sounder Ever. No argument.

Recessionproof since 2009.

by 253Sounder on Oct 15, 2011 9:42 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Think its Keller

No Montero and we tie tonight. No Keller and we lose badly tonight.

by tksoundersfan on Oct 15, 2011 9:52 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Honestly, if the Chara call up for Colombia is the first of a pattern,

we could see a bit longer of a run out of Fredy. We can pay him, he’s an absolute hero here, and all he needs is those international caps….

You do all the work for us, Honey Badger, and we'll just eat whatever you find.

by mistuhp on Oct 15, 2011 9:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Thank You Sounders!

Great game. Rosales is amazing. He changes the game when he’s in there.

Keller had a great game, too. I know you’re retiring, but hang around for a few more games, will you? Say,… 5 more?
