Osvaldo Alonso Wins TheCup.US Player Of Round For US Open Cup Final
The Player of the Round (and still to be announced Player of Tournament) is voted on by mostly the same group that votes for MLS' Player of Week/Month awards. Today TheCup.US announced that Seattle Sounders defensive midfielder Osvaldo Alonso was the Player of the Round for the US Open Cup Final.
Alonso was challenged for the award by teammates Fredy Montero and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado.
As the first player to in the MLS era to make the Final four straight years the award doesn't come as much of a surprise, but it is still generally rare for a more defensive minded outfield player to take home individual recognition. When Osvaldo placed that exclamation point on the end of the game dribbling through the Chicago Fire defense and slotting home a goal that allowed Seattle fans to erupt in joy not just from a goal, but the winning of a championship he likely vaulted to the forefront of voters' minds.

You must honor and respect the Honey Badger.
Otherwise he goes all postal on your ass.

Not only that. In his words:
Alonso: My position is to win the ball. Somebody gets the ball I want to get it.
Thanks Ozzie, and SaH for the quote.

Nobody stopped cheering after he put that goal away.
It kept going all the way through the trophy ceremony. Plus he was always there anytime they started to build up an attack. Congratulations Ozzie, a well deserved award.
He is so fierce he doesn't need to score.
Anybody who knows soccer knows he was the best. We will probably lose him to Europe in the next transfer window. I don’t want to see him go, but it would be good for his career. My favorite Sounder. Who gave Alonso the Honey Badger nickname? It’s suits him.
Aaron was the first i saw that called him Honey Badger

So far my favorite moment of the season is the look of pure, delerious joy on Alonso's face after he scored that goal.
Now with more pessimism!

I nominate Eric and Jeff
If it wasn’t for Eric and Jeff, we might have lost in penalty kicks. Honorable mention: Freddy and Osvaldo “Xabi” Alonso
