Sounders Third Kit Officially Super Cyan
The bright blue leaked kit is in fact the official third kit for the Seattle Sounders. Today the team announced that the "super cyan" and "electricity yellow" kit will be the primary kit used in CONCACAF Champions League, US Open Cup and Friendlies. It will be worn in a cyan-cyan-cyan system from top to bottom. Rave Green and Cascade Shale remain the primary and secondary kits for MLS play. Though all three kits are now TechFit, only the 2011 kits will have the straps in a non-team color.
Now available online and in official team stores, the authentic men's top comes with a $110 price tag. Like most MLS jerseys it is launched with an intended two year cycle. Within the press release the Sounders make it clear that their third kits will continue to be bold and outside of their traditional color palette.

Sounders FC Reveal New Third Kit for 2012 Season
RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Sounders FC revealed the new third kit for the 2012 season featuring a color spectrum in the blue/green family named "super cyan" and trimmed in electricity. The signature rave green jersey will continue to serve as the Sounders FC primary kit.
"Super cyan is an evolution of the Sounders FC distinct color palette," said Sounders FC owner Joe Roth. "The super cyan kit with the electricity trim definitely sets the Sounders apart. As always, we're proud to feature Xbox on this and all of our Sounders FC kits."
Super cyan will be worn for Champions League, U.S. Open Cup and friendly matches in order to differentiate between these competitions and MLS league matches. The shale kit will continue as the secondary kit and will be worn when the rave green is in color conflict or is similar to a home team's primary kit.
The Xbox logo is featured prominently on the jersey front with a two-tone Sounders FC logo over the heart. The traditional adidas 3-stripes and trim are electricity. The jersey, shorts and socks will all feature the same color palette.
The third kit features the adidas TECHFIT™ Powerweb technology designed to improve core strength by applying optimal pressure to areas of the athlete's body to increase blood flow. The Powerweb bands allows for maximum range of motion, breathability and comfort. TECHFIT™ focuses the athlete's muscles' energy to generate maximum explosive power, acceleration and long-term endurance.

That's a replica price
Though the 3rd is pricier than Rave Green authentic

I've been joking about on this on Twitter, but seriously.
I really can’t tell if they were going for the “Super Saiyan” Dragonball reference or not.

Just hideous.
Way to make the team look like a bunch of 12 yo girls playing beach volleyball. Ugh…

Just saw on twitter...
…from someone in TA: “Proof that Portland-based Adidas employees are biased (pro-Timbers, anti-Sounders)”
I don’t think they had any say personally… they don’t pick the color palette, the team does.
It is definitely a collaboration

No need
Portland doesn’t have a 3rd kit, because they never play in multiple competitions.

1. Portland was in the US Open Cup
2. Seattle didn’t have a 3rd kit it’s first year either. No MLS team ever has (go read the above Sounders FC Kit Combinations). Portland will be releasing their 3rd kit on the 1st of Dec.
3. Don’t like the sounders, but respect the efforts they make in their jerseys. They keep them interesting. You, however turned a 3rd kit introduction post into a opportunity to take poorly formed cheap shot at Portland. You are a tit.
"Like a 40 Degree day!"
Wait, you're surprised that we took an opportunity to take a shot at p0rtland?
Have you been a Timbers fan only since March 20, 2009? I thought a Timbers fan would know the rivalry we have with them since they come out of the womb with an axe (at least that’s what I believe based on their marketing campaigns).

USOC does not require a third kit
But participating in CCL requires one. It is in the rules, which state that the away team must bring two sets of kits that do not conflict with the home team’s kit. That of course is not possible unless you have three kits.
We never stop taking shots at Portland.
It’s just so easy.

The reverse is true also
There’s a certain portland website that will never use the word Sounders
I am not a Supporter | I am not a Fan | I am a Sounder
Sounder At Heart
The difference is Portland doesn't need one.
And won’t until they qualify for CCL.
Which they won’t. Ever.
Whether they need it or not
Portland has said that they will release their third kit in early December.
They're heading into their second year
At this time two years ago the ‘electricity’ was announced. But I agree with Jack Brando, PDX doesnt need a third kit because they wont be doing an international travel. The color choice is to get people talking, its working.
Go banana!
Someday I will probably remember this color best...
…as the color the Sounders wore when they won the CCL for the first time.

Whatever. Barca consistently seems to have some of the ugliest 3rd kits I’ve seen and they are still awesome. Somehow I’ll manage.
Boo! Tomorrow AM. I want all things now!

I've decided to hold off judgement, for now.
I hated the TechFit kits when they were originally introduced. Now, I’m actually alright with the designs (minus the duct tape straps). I think these will grow on people much like the electricity kits did.
But man, $110. Maybe I’ll pick one up in two years when they’re on their way out.
Vos mos audite nos vos. Vos mos vereor nos.
You will hear us. You will fear us.
Other teams had techfit before Sounders
no one noticed, because the techfit straps were in the color of the shirt

unless they are different...I notice them all the time
they are not the same color exactly… they are reflective clear strips and make ugly shiny flashes across the kits :P. They look worse on our kits as silver straps, but they still look terrible as clear shiny straps on other teams kits.
It looks like the Cyan jerseys have the straps as the same color as the jersey,
is this going to be the same with our Rave Green and Shale kits? Or are the straps going to continue to look like duct tape?
The kits are on a two-year cycle.
Soonest we’ll see the straps disappear is 2013.

Props to the Sounders marketing team...
for releasing this on the Friday before the MLS Cup, and day of MVP announcement, and thereby dominating the conversation on the interwebs. Love it or hate it, everyone is talking about the Sounders today!

'Super Cyan' hunh
I need a copy of the thesaurus the Sounders use, I have a term paper coming up and it might be helpful considering the variations they use for describing kit colors.

It's one of the closest color pallettes

Bahamas blue is closer but their kits have a decent amount of black in them.

This is actually brilliant
These highlighter colors are now basically an unoffical team color that they get to change every two years. They are now part of our brand as much as sellouts, winning Open Cups and beating p0rtland in pdx.

Does anyone else think
That it looked a lot better on Zak than Mauro?
The Seattle Sounders are just reDQulous
The best part of this is that it sets the stage for our kit in 2014 to be "Super Nyan"

I would really like to see the kits that were rejected.

I dunno...
…you have to picture these hoisting the CCL trophy or US Open Cup before you judge. In fact, they should really stage these player pics with the USOC so we can see how these will really look when it matters. :-)

FO appears to value controversy over jersey sales.
All speculation at this point, but I don’t see people elbowing each other out of the way at the pro shop for this one.
With all the raging and complaining
and dry heaving involved with the unveiling of the Electricity kits 2 years ago, you would have thought sales would be terrible. Fast forward to summer 2011 and there are as many Electricity kits in the CLink as there are FC Dallas fans at Pizza Hut Park.

Love it.
When I saw the leaked photo from Rod Mar my initial reaction was to vomit. But they’ve grown on me to the point that I think they’re genius. When they wear these, the only question I’ll have is who on the Sounders is Crockett and who is Tubbs?
Kudos on the kit for the Bahamas National Soccer Team.

Well. I for one. Love it.
And the best part is if you don’t then skip purchasing it.
Sports.
Awesome. I dig having obnoxious kits while killing it on the field.
Noel Gallagher has a great line about his admiration of The Stone Roses and how, by dressing absolutely ridiculous, they managed to look like the essence of cool.
Whether it’s Angus Young wearing a schoolboy’s outfit or Robert Plant rocking a woman’s blouse in Zep’s heyday, rockstars make the ridiculous cool just by association.
Kits don’t make the Sounders cool, the Sounders make the kits cool.

Just saw these in person
All I can say is that with the prominent yellow shoulder 3-stripes Adidas style (which you can’t really get the feel for above) and the collar, the shirt is retro and ugly. I was totally channeling the ‘75 Miami Dolphins with the coloring. Don’t know what the shorts to go with this may look like, but all they can do is potentially make it look worse. I think even some of the “FO can do no wrong” crowd are going to rate this a fail. I actually ended up ok, but not loving, the yellow kits. These simply look cheesy and I don’t see them catching on.

I'm going to wear this kit when I go out and about in the wilderness.
That way they can see me from space when I get lost. Darwinism. Does that mean the Sounders are more evolved?
