Certainly, I would like to thank everyone involved with my success, which includes all of the SSFC fans and supporters, especially the ECS and Gorilla FC. I would also like to sincerely thank the Seattle Sounders club, front office/support staff, coaches, and trainers. Thank you to my marketing manager Rich Martin. In addition, I would like to thank all of my community partners, Boys and Girls Club, Special Olympics, America Scores, Susan G. Komen, Ronald McDonald House, Children's Hospital, Gilda's Club, Union Gospel Mission, Hope Place, Sadie Lynn Rainford, Korean American Coalition, Emerald City Supporters, Gorilla FC and Mars Hill Church.
There's more over at SoundersFC.com, but that paragraph kind of notes why Riley means much more than just another player.
As an aside. Today I changed it so that Riley and Tyson Wahl were no longer listed as Sounders in the SBN system. Montano I have left as his status is still unofficial.

It's starting to sink in
It is going to be weird screaming at the Santos game, and right now for certain, no Keller, Riley or Wahl. These losses are the veteran Sounders of our short MLS history and it stings. Add no Arlo to the mix and what a different feel the ’12 sounders will be. I hate to admit it, but the security blanket side of me wants to see some/any positive news from the FO. Right now, the next news we are likely to hear will be the non-contract renewals. Come on FO, bring us a great present for the holidays.

You are correct
It is almost certain that declined options will be the next player news. But in 14 days we may see a pick-up of other declined options. Also, at the end of that we should have a great idea of the cap situation.
They could announce Rosales extension and the new keeper at any moment.
I am not a Supporter | I am not a Fan | I am a Sounder
Sounder At Heart
That the Sounders traded Wahl right after they lost Riley meant that they wanted to go in a different direction with the defense
I don’t believe the Sounders were surprised at all with the selection. I believe that the Sounders already have in place a plan A, plan B, plan C, etc. to improve their defense, as they were not happy with the results of last season defensively.
When we know the Cap situation, it won’t be too long before the pieces start to fall into place. Hard to believe training camp is only about two months away..
While I'm not sure I'll miss him that much as a player on the field...
… James Riley is one hell of a huge loss off the field. Not many better human beings in sports.

Got to meet Riley a couple times in person
He is every bit as genuine as I imagined just by seeing his demeanor on the field and in his community work. If we’d lost Fucito I would’ve been disappointed, but losing Riley actually made me sad. He was one of the guys I’d hoped would finish out their careers here.

If there was a template for what I want from a role player on the team
Riley would be it. He played with heart on his sleave every time he stepped on the field. Everytime a team mate was unfairly hacked down, Riley was one of the first guys there to defend him. He cared for the team, the city and fans. As a right back, there maybe better players in the league, but as a person, there are not better Sounders.
I think we will miss his attitude along the back line next year. You need a guy that gets pissed off sometimes. You need a guy that brings the emotion.
Love Riley
ran into him at the Hawks Nest Bar and Grill before a vacation and HE chatted me up for 20 min. Then saw him again another time running around with Lamar, (i went to hs with him) they were both the most genuine people ive ever met.. James was truly a great man and did so much. My favorite Sounder is gone. Here is to healing and wishing him a prosperous career. If anyone deserves it, its James Riley..

Thank you James Riley
It has been a pleasure to watch a gentleman athlete. Best of luck as you move forward. Your contributions to Seattle will not be forgotten.
