Gaven, Rogers, Burns & Ekpo Out Of Contract With Crew
Now, this doesn't mean they are free agents within MLS. The rights issues are fairly complex. If the Crew don't want one back, but MLS reaches a contract agreement the players would be available in the Re-Entry Draft. Their rights would also be availabe via trade.
Any interest you as an addition to Seattle? At what price?

So the question for me is, how would any of them slot into the Midfield/Winger rotation?
My understanding is that none of them are true forwards, but it’s not a team I follow closely. Rogers and Gaven are listed as M/F and Burns and Ekpo are listed at M.
Where would you rank them if you feel the Sounders depth across the outside and center (attacking) midfielder spots is something like:
Rosales
Zakuani
Fernandez
Friberg
Evans
Neagle
Totally agree
The only way I can see any of these Crew midfielders coming to Seattle would be if after the expansion draft, one of either Evans or Friberg is taken.
Gavin, Ekpo and Rodgers would be useful if we weren't already stacked at MF
Rodgers is a lot like Zak except without the same level of skill and finishing.
The SAH Links Guy
Eddie Gaven seems the most tempting
Great player, and young to boot. Not a huge fan of Rogers. Ekpo is good too.
Timing
Isn’t it a matter of timing too. You don’t want to do it before the expansion draft and have to protect them. Am I wrong ?
Absolutely
For expansion draft purposes they should be expected to still be on/off Columbus’ list.

I think it would be worth signing Robbie Rogers just to park him in the reserves so he never plays for the USMNT again.
Klinsmann would still call him up
for all of his talk about playing time/form/etc Rogers doesn’t have it.

Not a fan of Rogers
Just don’t think he’s a very smart player.
Can't just take out pick
I don’t believe Seattle can just go out and sign them. MLS instituted the re-entry draft last year, wasn’t that their reaction to free agency?
Yes, there is no free agency for rights controlled players in MLS
As it says above.

Rogers wants to go to Europe, and I see Gaven and Ekpo staying.
Ekpo needs minutes to play for his nation’s national team and the Crew guarantee that. Gaven has been a huge part of the Crew, in terms of keeping it working. Can’t say about Burns. Plus, I think that the Sounders have mostly superior players. These guys would find bench time (except maybe Gaven)
