Montero leading scorer across all competitions
DeRosario may have won the Golden Boot, but he was not the leading scorer across all competitions involving MLS players. Montero won that distinction. According to MLS this is only the fourth time this has happened.

Funny thing is
One of the questions submitted to Council was “How can Montero be more productive and display actual leadership?”

He cannot shake this perception
that he is lazy, petulant, unproductive, not hungry, etc. I really don’t get it. He used to complain a lot to the refs, seemed like it died down significantly after the other Freddie left, but it feels like people are still doggin him all the time. Meanwhile he just keeps scoring and doing other Golden God-like activities…
Recessionproof since 2009.
I actually disagree that Fredy used to complain a lot to the refs
I feel like he has always been pretty savvy when it comes to working the refs, and he generally doesn’t complain about calls not going his way, at least not in a way that would show up the ref. I think if anything, this contributes to the perception that he is lazy or doesn’t have any fire in the belly or what have you. He doesn’t always get the calls to go his way, but I don’t think he actively does things that steer refs away from making calls that go his way.
If I wanted to make a baseball analogy with Fredy, it seems like he’s sort of the equivalent of a slugger who hits, say, .250-.260, but walks a bunch, hits a lot of home runs, but also strikes out a lot. Those hitters have a lot of value but can also be frustrating at times.
If he can make it look as easy as it seems
it probably means he’s doing something right.
What I mean by that is that I think Montero’s style of play ends up contributing to this perception that he can’t seem to shake. To me, Montero makes it look “easy” – he plays soccer like he’s playing golf or like how a cobra dominates the food chain (except for when it comes to interacting with the Honey Badger, of course). Montero is calculated, he has excellent technique, and he pulls off a kind of sporting brilliance that takes an experienced eye to notice. He is subtle and controlled, and that’s part of what makes his game shine – for those who have eyes to see.
He’s like a ninja. And how many ninjas have you interacted with lately? That’s right, none. Because the better the ninja the more they go unnoticed, and that’s part of what makes them amazing… just like Montero.

Um, doesn't this happen every year?
Somebody has to have to most goals among MLS players, right? I mean if you put a list together of all MLS players and add up all their goals, there has to be one or more players at the top of that list. Or is this somehow not that?
This is someone leading in all competitions
That did not lead for MLS play only.

Golden Boot for MLS
The Golden Boot is for the leader in just MLS competition. Usually the GB winner is also the winner for all competitions but niot this year.

no the GB is only based off of goals for MLS play only, no other competitions factored in (I'm pretty sure)
Most of the players who have, or would have, won the golden boot in previous years also happen to have scored the most in all competitions. This year that wasn’t the case Montero scored 18 goals in all competitions while DeRo only scored 17.
OK I can see that I read it incorrectly, my fault
as in the Golden Boot is given to the MLS player who scores the most goals in all competitions. Not that they just happen to be the same most years.
