"The negotiations with Miguel Montano are going well and we are very confident he comes back."
Nick De Santis, Montreal Impact Sporting Director. The story is in French, but there are these fancy translating tools that should give you the gist of the story. In any case, this is the most concrete thing we've heard about Montano yet. It's still unclear what, if anything, the Sounders would receive in exchange for his rights.

Sounders should keep him.
He is good! He is definatly worth his value, if we can keep the giraffe for three years we should be able to keep Mantano for three. Geez
Why?
Montano has been here 2 years and isn’t any closer than he was last year in getting some serious playing time imo. Montano’s day in Seattle is pretty much over. We can use that international spot on someone else.
This is better for him
He really was nowhere near breaking into the rotation here and this will at least give him a chance to play.

How are Nate Jaqua and Miguel Montano related?

Jaqua is secretly Montaño's dad?
Montaño is a secret agent and Jaqua is his handler? (I’ve been watching a lot of Burn Notice recently.)
They’re actually the same person?

Eh, he never really was ours.
Sure, he’s had some good times here, but I feel like he’s the Todd Dunivant of our team, marred by a name that is too similar to a bigger star.

More allocation money?
Seattle will get something for Montreal to keep him after the loan.
Nos audietis in somniis, Nos audietis in altum: You will hear us!
They only have so much allocation money that they can give up.

All contracts are held by MLS, not the team
Sure, his original team could pull back the loan if they a new MLS team won’t be able to develop him, but that seems unlikely considering they didn’t pull Montano’s loan after he didn’t play.

Would we be loaning Montano again
or selling him?

We don't own Montano's rights
Those are still owned by Quilmes, as far as I know.

But Seattle does hold his MLS rights

Sounders could trade him, but not sell him is my point

Could trade him for allocation
Which is not too different from selling him.
Fair enough
Except the team trading allocation money for him wouldn’t actually own him either.

is the type of stuff I just take your guys’ word on, always confused.

That's what I meant
I doubt we’d get a player from Montreal right now, at least one we’d want.

My perspective on Montano is that...
…he seems to be behind Estrada on the depth chart. Sure there’s some potential there, but we’ll be able to get more potential in the draft.
Change of Scenery
I’m with Jeremiah on this. At this point, Montano probably needs a change of scenery and a fresh start. The Impact obviously appreciate his services and he is more apt to break the lineup.
