US Open Cup's Problems Not So Easy To Fix
No one is a bigger fan of the US Open Cup than the guys at TheCup.US. Josh Hakala and company know more about the tournament than just about anyone this side of the organizers, and maybe more. That said, there are some scary facts in this piece. Perhaps the most bothersome is the fact that in the past three years, only nine of 117 matches not involving the Sounders drew at least 4,000 fans. This tournament still has a long ways to go before it's considered nearly big as we feel it should be.

If it was about who could provide the best atmosphere, we'd still host every match
The only possible exception would be RSL.
Adrian
Adrian says make it huge or kill it. I couldn’t disagree more, the tourney was fine and it survived when NASL opted out and it would be if MLS did the same.
I agree
But I understand Adrian’s point of view too. It can be frustrating for a top flight team to participate in a competition that neither the organizers or many of the other participating teams take very seriously. Make it big or make it an amateur competition is more like what I would say. And the latter option would obviously be a damn shame.
