Some highlights of the US U-17 victory over Brazil at the Nike Friendlies. This is notable first because Sounders U-16 player Paul Christensen was the goalkeeper for the US and second because at the youth level the US outplayed Brazil.

Future is bright
Watching the U17s on equal footing with their equivalent youth in other countries is exciting.

Definitely
although we’ve been competing off and on at the top level for the past 10-15 years (it all started, btw, with Keller, back in….. ‘88?). This was different. There was a level of combination play I’ve simply never seen this consistently in this age bracket. Instead of some really fast studs who ran us into competitiveness, this team has a nice balance of speed and skill. Flores is the real deal (although, again, you just never really know at this age), but I nearly crapped my pants when the announcer said, “yes, he’s quite talented, but the scouts are very worried that he might not get any taller or faster.” Hmmmm, David Ferreira is what, 5’5" or so in heels? Yet he’s the best player on the field every time I see him play.
To anyone who watched the entire match
how did they look overall? Well composed? Well-structured? Interested to hear if Klinsmann’s coaches are passing along his tactical system.
