UPDATED: Hawks Nest NOT open for business
Update: Epic fail on my part. It turns out this was just a mistake. Jeremiah has confirmed (and commented below) that the Hawks Nest is not opening up this season. Just to show I'm not a liar though, this is the image I pulled from my browser cache: http://twitpic.com/4085ay Bummer...
So I'm poking around on SoundersFC.com this morning and I come accross a new seating chart with a very obvious change. Three new sections where added: 146, 147, 149, and 150. These sections are commonly known as "the Hawks Nest". It looks like these sections will be priced the same as the end zone sections that surround the ECS ($22/game).
I've posted previously on the significance of opening the Hawks Nest. It represents an increase of about 3,000 seats. It also means that the advertising portion of the contract that Sounders FC has with Microsoft probably had to be reworked a bit.
Jeremiah has posted on this where he analyzed a quote from Joe Roth which forshadowed this change back in October. Is this perhaps early proof of at least an incremental increase in season ticket sales again this season?
Finally, the entire lower bowl of Qwest Field will be available for Sounders FC home league matches. How much will would this improve the already electric atmosphere on gameday? How much louder do you think we can get? Do you think we'll we would have any difficulty selling out ~3,000 additional tickets for every game?
FanPosts only represent the opinions of the poster, not of Sounder at Heart.

3,000?
That’s cake. I don’t think it will be hard at all, in fact I’d be willing to bet they could increase that much just in season ticket holders.
Season ticket sales are down this year actually

I would guess that's at least partly influenced by the price hike.
I think we could fill the nest (and more), but it would require freezing season ticket prices for a few seasons.
I think that is exactly what it is
Well that, and the FUBAR method the Sounders used for renewals this year.

Yeah, that wasn't so awesome at all.
Still not happy about it.

I wouldn't believe Falk
Haneur has said that the season tickets will go up, but not by a lot.
“Hanauer said he thinks the team will increase season-ticket sales from last year’s 32,000, “but it doesn’t look like it’ll be a big enough increase to immediately open that Hawks Nest.”
About season-ticket sales plateauing…
Admittedly, you always want more, Hanauer said. But a total above 32,000 “in an extremely challenging economy” isn’t so bad either. "
Sounders FO needs to be careful
They really screwed up season ticket renewals this off season. It’s great that they lead the pack in total season ticket sales, but when they start saying things like this and make excuses or reasons why the numbers haven’t gone up and they’re still happy, they’re kidding themselves. They still have yet to come anywhere near equaling the marketing push they made prior to their first season. To some extent they’re still riding that tidal wave of 2009. I’d like to see them make a renewed marketing push this season rather than the face plant they did with season ticket renewals during the off season.
Hawks Nest definitely not planned for opening
The link no longer works and Sounders officials just told me it must have been a mistake. There are currently no plans to open the Hawks Nest for regular season games.

That's
what i thought it was. Just a mistake.
Just to clarify...
When I first clicked on the link, it did, in fact, show the Hawks Nest being open. Sometime between that and my conversation with Sounders officials, the link must have been fixed. K61 was very much on top of it. Thanks for finding it, as it would have definitely been worth a story if true.

Would have been funny
If you bought a ticket there in the brief window and then forced them to honor it. Just you all by yourself in the hawks nest sitting on the tarp. :)
