Evans
Carrasco
Earls Martinez
Wahl Scott
Boss

FC Dallas Starters: Kevin Hartman, Jair Benitez, Alexis Pradie, Jackson, Zach Loyd, Daniel Hernandez, Brek Shea, Eric Alexander, David Ferreira, Marvin Chavez, Ruben Luna

That's pretty much an FCD Starting Roster versus mostly backup Sounders. Going to be a tough first half.

Interesting lineup stuff

Neagle playing left wing.
Nkufo paired up with Fucito for the first time I can recall.
Martinez starting at right back.

matt said tomorrows starting line up will be mainly starters

and that will be trying to get them to play 65 70 minutes.

So i expect we wont be seeing many starters today. which probably means white will be playing tomorrow instead of nkufo.

I'm interested in seeing how Martinez does

So far it sounds like he’s been active getting forward and trying to feed Fucito.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 12:43 PM PST up reply actions

yeah same

I wish we had a live feed for these games

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 12:44 PM PST up reply actions

Looks like the FO sees Fucito as mainly a forward.

I remember some speculation earlier that he might be an option on the right wing. I don’t recall having heard of him playing there at any point this preseason though…

by moyerLIVES on Feb 21, 2011 12:42 PM PST reply actions

I think he's the clear 2nd option

It looks like they’re really grooming him as the 2nd option at WF. He’ll get plenty of games there in CCL and Open Cup. I’m excited. :-)

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 12:44 PM PST up reply actions

Me too!

I’m sure we’ll see his PP90 drop as he gets more minutes, but I think he has a shot at being very very good.

Maybe even USMNT good. Maybe.

by moyerLIVES on Feb 21, 2011 12:46 PM PST up reply actions

It's certainly possible

He’s fast and has a nose for goal. It’s a combination that the USMT needs right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a call-up in the next couple of years.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 12:50 PM PST up reply actions

Big game for Estrada

I think the best chance for Estrada to secure his spot on team is to show he’s got the chops to be a back-up at both withdrawn forward and right-mid. The withdrawn forward spot is getting crowded.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 12:46 PM PST reply actions

Not sure if Gaschk is only seeing the action at his end

or if we’re really dominating that much. Bunch of chances for SSFC so far, including a Nkufo header that Hartman has to save at the post. Couple of shots by Fucito.

Dallas up by 1

20: FC Dallas scores. Marvin Chavez knocks in a ball at the right post – tough break for the Sounders who have held a majority of possession so far. FC Dallas 1, Sounders FC 0.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 12:53 PM PST up reply actions

It happens, the counter will get you almost every time.

Let’s see you the youngsters rebound after giving up a goal

by Coug1990 on Feb 21, 2011 12:55 PM PST up reply actions

Unforunate

I’m wondering who blew the marking on that one. We’ve got two converted fullbacks playing center-back. And two young fullbacks. I’m not surprised someone forgot their mark.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:00 PM PST up reply actions

Dallas up 2-0

28: A cross from the right side finds Brek Shea unmarked in front of the net for an uncontested header that he puts past Terry Boss for a goal. FC Dallas 2, Sounders FC 0.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 12:59 PM PST reply actions

seattle

had a chance to get one but the PK is waved off for offsides

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:01 PM PST up reply actions

Seamon is subbed on for Evans

It’s good to see him back in action.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:02 PM PST up reply actions

They probably want to see Seamon play a bit

He hasn’t gotten much time in the preseason games. Evans also looks fine in the picture Gaschk posted on the game thread.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:05 PM PST up reply actions

true but he has been injured

unless they plan to sub him out. 60 minutes is a lot to play on the first day back from injury

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:06 PM PST up reply actions

that's

what i thought they are playing him slowly to build up his fitness i do wonder if he’ll be fitness ready before march 15th.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:07 PM PST up reply actions

yeah. im surprised evans was subbed out so soon

I expect him to play 45.

I doubt Seamon can play 60. he has only been in full training for a couple of days.

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:10 PM PST up reply actions

Good news from Gaschk

I should specify that it was planned for Evans to only play 30 minutes – no recurrence of the injury or anything of that nature.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:14 PM PST up reply actions

Good point

I think we might see Prieto play most of the 2nd half. They still need to make a tough decision on that kid.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:08 PM PST up reply actions

they have a lot of tough decisions

its going to come down to would they rather keep veterans who have been with the sounders for a while or get youngsters they can groom.

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:09 PM PST up reply actions

Prieto chances

at make the squad is lower since Martinez joined

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:09 PM PST up reply actions

er

make that joined the camp.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:10 PM PST up reply actions

Sad, but true

I’ve become attached to Prieto, but it does look like he’s odds lowered considerably with Martinez joining the camp.

My thought is that the Sounders were hoping to land Veeder in the recent lottery. When the Crew got him they decided to bring in Martinez as a possible young back-up at RB.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

yep i think that too

we dont have a natural right back backup

levesque has been filling in but thats not his natural position.

id rather see prieto make the roster then noonan and i still dont think we need to carry 13 defenders so I think a defender or two might be in trouble

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:14 PM PST up reply actions

imo scott

would be one then one CB’s either graham or cruz.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:16 PM PST up reply actions

yeah i agree

If martinez pans out then i feel like 2 of the ones you mentioned could be gone

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:23 PM PST up reply actions

Noonan was horrible as a target striker

The only position I even remotely liked seeing him play last year was WF. He’s not strong enough for the target man role and not fast enough to play on the wings.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:19 PM PST up reply actions

see i dont know about that

I feel like white (based on what Ive been hearing out of camp) has taken jaqua sub role.
So Jaqua has become less important.

Also I feel like Jaqua might be used as trade bait. dont shoot me for saying this. depending on what he is asking for as a salary (last year was wayyy to high) due to the fact he is moving down in depth.

also even if Jaqua goes on IR i doubt noonan will play. Sigi would use Montero, Nkufo, White, fucito, Estrada, and Neagle all ahead of him

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:22 PM PST up reply actions

Jaqua

has little trade value coming off an injury and missing half of the 2010 season.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:23 PM PST up reply actions

but he might have some.

his salary is a huge hit. Last year his salary was 200K more then a lot of players. unless he is taking a big pay cut i dont see the value

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:24 PM PST up reply actions

Jaqua

took a pay cut last season. I think he was making less than montero was by the time the season was over.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:26 PM PST up reply actions

according to

2010 aug salaries he made 150k.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:28 PM PST up reply actions

Yea

if team really wants to open cap space noonan would be the one to cut.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:33 PM PST up reply actions

The issue is that the way we fans see Noonan and the way that Sigi

sees Noonan are two entirely different things. So, while we may think it is a no brainer that Noonan should be released, he is still in camp because Sigi sees him adding something that we do not see.

Now, don’t get me wrong, Sigi can be wrong, but he has earned the benefit of the doubt at this point.

by Coug1990 on Feb 21, 2011 1:33 PM PST up reply actions

I like having 3 target men

Our team really plays better with a true target man. I really think the team needs three target men especially with Nkufo’s age and White’s injury history.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:29 PM PST up reply actions

i wanna see him

like i said last night, prieto sounds like a top level talent. have you guys seen him yet? seems his creativity is different than average joe mls center mid.

by barcachamps on Feb 21, 2011 1:14 PM PST reply actions

It's

possible that we good see him on the roster depending who Seattle cuts or IRs

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:20 PM PST up reply actions

i'd like to see us keep a technical player like that.....

link him up with our other talented guys like montero, flaco, alonso. guys that speak that same soccer language and treat the ball well. don’t get me wrong, i like guys with good work ethic but we need to start playing better soccer here in the states and we should lead that charge….

by barcachamps on Feb 21, 2011 1:22 PM PST reply actions

er

make that new group coming up

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:45 PM PST up reply actions

here it is!

Lineup: Meredith, Levesque, Taylor Graham, Leone Cruz, Tetteh, Montano, Osvaldo Alonso, Seamon, Jonathan Prieto, Pat Noonan, Fredy Montero.

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:46 PM PST up reply actions

i was

wondering when he’ll see action.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:47 PM PST up reply actions

montero

is only there to clean up Noonan scrappy playing ;)

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:49 PM PST up reply actions

haha true.

but its an extremely interesting duo.
that im pretty sure has failed because either noonan or montero is playing up top in the target striker role

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:50 PM PST up reply actions

We saw this a few games last year

Don't remind me....

I’m trying to forget the Noonan as target forward experiment.

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 1:53 PM PST up reply actions

Well...not quite

Sigi used him last year as a TF, WF and an outside mid. I don’t think he was terribly effective in any of those roles, but probably his best role was WF.

So, Sigi might still want to keep him as a veteran backup and leader who can play multiple positions…

by Dizzo on Feb 21, 2011 4:50 PM PST up reply actions

what im wondering is where everyone is playing in the mid

im guessing prieto left side, alonso and seamon in the middle, and montano on the right

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:49 PM PST up reply actions

Yea

that sounds right. Its going right to left.

by gstommylee on Feb 21, 2011 1:50 PM PST up reply actions

red card to a Dallas player

Andrew Jacobsen..

maybe we can get back into this!

by Sandra_R on Feb 21, 2011 1:57 PM PST reply actions

Might not be a man down

They’ve kept it 11-on-11 after reds in the other training games

Nos Audietis

by sidereal on Feb 21, 2011 2:05 PM PST up reply actions

ok so since noonan played today and is in training

is he fair game to be cut??

because if he is playing then his injury must be better
