New York Red Bulls Vs. Seattle Sounders: Match Card, Projected Starting Line-ups

Photo

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The time was originally listed as 3:30. The game is at 4:30 pacific.

We're fully expecting the Sounders to go with the same starting lineup that they did against the LA Galaxy. Steve Zakuani was the big question mark in that one, and he seems to be OK enough to play. If he can't go, maybe the recently signed Mauro Rosales gets his first start of his MLS career. We can safely assume O'Brian White will get another start, as there is not clear alternative at this point. Erik Friberg also seems the clear choice, since he played reasonably well on Tuesday and Brad Evans is still ailing.

For the New York Red Bulls, we asked Ben Schneider of Once a Metro for his opinion. He says Greg Sutton is going to get the nod over Bouna Condoul as the starting goalkeeper. He also seems to think Roy Miller and Jan Gunnar Solli are healthy enough to start, despite their both being listed as questionable on the injury report.

As always, here's a printer-friendly version:  New York Vs. Sounders

Whats the issue with Condoul?

Is it an injury or just a question of match fitness?

Supposedly, Backe's just not really happy with him

There’s definitely a chance he’ll start, but Backe is not comfortable with his real roller-coaster nature.

MLS MatchDay Live

I’m about to bite the bullet and buy MatchDay Live. It’s only $40 right now (I think that price is only good for the next week) and you get over 200 matches from this year in an HD Webcast. I’m sold.

I’m also going in with one of my friends, so it is only costing us $20 each. You should find someone to split with. I figure MLS stream is the official one, so it’s a safe bet to rarely, if ever, go down. Just a thought.

by scottykimberly on Mar 19, 2011 11:52 AM PDT up reply actions

I bought it last year and for half of the year before

The half-year of the Sounders inaugural season was pretty decent, but last year was horrible. I’m trying, but failing, to remember the specific problems I had. Must have repressed those memories. It was very difficult to contact them for help or to let them know what wasn’t working.

I hope it’s better this year, but I’m not paying again to find out.

i dont think zakuani will start

i feel like he was rushed to start against LA and it set him back in his recovery.
id rather rest him then push him to play when he isnt ready

Not Tracking

The score isn’t coming up on any of the websites i’m going to. Did the time of the game change? Supposedly it should have started an hour ago.

Neighbors.....

Not sayin he’s not there now…. Just don’t think he travelled with the team.

Interesting to see that he puts Henry on the right.

Wonder how that will turn out with his bad wheel bearing that makes him constantly drift to the left touchline.

Agudelo & Henry have played all but five minutes together in an MLS match, and Ángel was in between them. Could be interesting.

did anyone else notice that there is only 4 americans on ny's team?

how many international spots are there? (they must have someone working in a government building getting green cards…)

A sky of blue, a sea of green...(or claret)

by kelliott1527 on Mar 18, 2011 8:10 PM PDT reply actions

Indeed.

Only four yet they have two of the four MLS players called up for the Argentina and Paraguay friendlies.

Go dawgs.

by deeplennon on Mar 18, 2011 8:38 PM PDT up reply actions

There are actually eigh

This is only 24 players, I believe, but yeah, they don’t have a lot. I actually talked about that in my season preview at SBN Soccer. It’s quite a little international experiment they have going there.

Noonan, Evans didn't travel

It appears Zakuani and Jaqua, did, though

You know what, I misread Josh's post

here’s what he actually said. Basically Jaqua and Zakuani have been upgraded. No word if they actually traveled.

Brad Evans?

What is his status? i know he is injured, but this chart lists him as “probable.” I’m wondering how much of his absence from the starting lineup is his injury, and how much is the coach favoring Friberg (even with his one notable gaffe in the LAX game).

by scottykimberly on Mar 19, 2011 11:54 AM PDT reply actions

Its purely injury

While he may not start if healthy, he’d certainly travel.

Thanks

I actually enjoyed watching Friberg work on Tuesday. I’m especially excited because we are going to need strong depth with the MLS/USOC/CCL this year.

That being said, I want Evans in when healthy. If Friberg wants my support he is gonna have to earn it (and not by giving Juninho a goal on a platter…)

by scottykimberly on Mar 19, 2011 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Brad Evans has always been one of "Sigi's guys"

I wouldn’t say theres a demonstrable preference either way at this point

by ClosetCoug on Mar 19, 2011 12:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I think Evans had advantage

I think, if there is an advantage, it’s to Evans. However, with the rigorous and high-volume schedule this year, I think both will see the pitch quite often. Mid-week games are going to be regular once we hit summer… (sigh)

from josh

“Brad Evans & Pat Noonan indeed did not to travel to NY. Expect the 18 to be similar to Tues., maybe Rosales/Estrada in for Levesque/Montano.”

i agree with rosales in but not estrada i feel like both montano and levesque are better then estrada
