Seattle Sounders v Houston Dynamo - Gamethead
The two sides have faced 6 times in League and Playoffs with a 2-2-2 record. Seattle has a win in US Open Cup play as well. While it is fun to hate on the opposition this is one of those teams with so many Sounders connections that the hate is muted, though desire for victory is not. Cam Weaver played at Skagit Valley CC, Seattle U and with the USL Sounders. Brian Ching also played with the USL team. Dom Kinnear played with the A-League Sounders. Tally Hall grew up in Gig Harbor.
These sons of the Sound can feel free to celebrate their continual returns, but not a win.

Keys to Game
- Set-Play Plus/Minus - Houston has great service, so Seattle must defend well.
- Strong Secondary Runs - Use speed of Steve Zakuani and OBW to create gaps for late runs
- Pressure Young Keeper - Youth can make mistakes, force that to happen.
Matchups
- Brad Davis v The Rain
- Zakuani v Freeman/Sarkodie
- Jhon Kennedy Hurtado v Brian Ching

Lineups!
Per Mayers.
GK Keller, D Scott, D Ianni, D Parke, D Gonzalez, M Evans, M Alonso, M Friberg, M Zakuani, F Montero, F White
Reserves: GK Terry Boss, M Servando Carrasco, M Alvaro Fernandez, D Jhon K. Hurtado, F Nate Jaqua, M Mauro Rosales, D Tyson Wahl
No Riley, Hurtado and Fernandez on the bench. This could get odd.

I guess I'll assume
that injuries have limited Sigi’s choices? Otherwise that seems like an unjustifiable back line.
Scott on the right against MLSers terrifies me.
It’s bad enough when he faces lower-level talents there in USOC play, but this could get ugly.

Is Riley Hurt/Sick?
If he’s not, my usually sunny optimism about coaching is going to vanish
i second this.
And why Evans over Fernandez.
I sorta get ianni over hurtado
But not the others

You "sorta get" the Sounders' third-best CB playing over their best CB?
Hurtado had some rough moments in the NYRB match, but he’s still been the best defender by far this season. If he’s healthy, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be starting.

Practice
maybe Ianni’s been a force in the back during practice these past few weeks and won the start over a not up to speed Hurtado. It happens sometimes.

I can see the coaches giving Hurtado a night off as a precautionary measure
Coming back from the knee injury and the closely scheduled games in the first two weeks.
Agreed with Conor
I see no issues with JKH… If its a limit his minutes type of thing fine, but Sigi sure does seem to make me feel like I got things to worry about instead of being excited about something.

either evans or friberg
might offer better support to Scott on D.
…of course, that doesn’t necessarily justify not simply moving Fernandez over to the middle in the spirit of holding onto one of the more dangerous players from the NY game.

Sigi's gambit
to field a weaker back line so that the forwards will step up and score some goals is exactly the sort of bold thinking that American soccer needs more of. I predict a 8-7 Sounders victory with Montero achieving a natural hat trick in both halves.
I still wish we hadn't cut Danny Earls.
I know that wouldn’t help us today since he’s pretty purely a left-sided player, but still…

I'd kind of like to see Alvaro in the midfield for Evans.
Rather liking Friberg on the wing.
Fantastic goal?
It ricocheted a dozen times and somehow squirted in.
I still can't believe that Houston goal deflected off two Sounders to go in. Man..
The original shot was straight at Keller.

I was visualizing
a Zak-Alonso-Friberg. Not saying I like it, just my initial thought for what else could of happend.
Zak in the midfield? Eh....
That does a lot to neutralize his speed, which is his greatest asset. Even if they play a line midfield with Zak as the CAM, Friberg as a central mid, and Alonso as a CDM, Zak can’t do as much to help things out.

Just kinda poured out of my fingers in response to the initial question in the thread. I was thinking that any other sub (besides maybe friberg-which would be silly at any rate) would require a shape change and that was the first one that came to mind.

He's better in the middle, so I'm fine with that.
He’s been doing more as a playmaker on the wing today than Evans was in the middle, so bringing that touch centrally makes sense.

So, did some quick googling on the ref.
Ramon Hernandez. This is his first match of 2011. Looks like he’s reffed two other Sounders matches, the 10/2/10 3-2 win over TFC, and the 8/28/10 2-1 win over Chicago. Nothing stands out, but he did book Montero, Nkufo, and Jaqua during the Chicago match. Definitely card-happy, though, has given out at least four cards in a match nine times in the last few years.

It would be a much different match
if he called half or even a quarter of the potential calls correctly
Should have given at least two more.
The early one against Friberg was a clear red, and the trip on Gonzo in the box was nearly as bad. Not that SFC needed cards to win this one, but damn it makes the tie all the more irritating.
I need Sigi to be more into it.

played really well especially going after the ball.
As did OBW and Friberg. Jacqua looked out of shape.
And bless you Zakuani.

I don't blame him for being out of shape.
Just saying he needs another couple of games off.
Now with more lemon bars!
I doubt
Jaqua will be starting just yet. Well he’s going to be on the 18 and will be subbing in until hes fit enough to start.
Well he looked out of shape in a subbing role.
So I would rather he completely sat out another couple games.
Now with more lemon bars!
That
is not going to happen. Seattle isn’t going to bench Jaqua given where we are with other attacking options.
I thought he was great. Awesome hustle out there. Hopefully he keeps that up for the rest of the season.
even his
crossed looked good even though they went to the keeper.
Which made them not look very good.
But his effort to get to the ball to send in those crosses was excellent.
