MLS Match Day Open Thread

We get the opportunity to see Portland Timbers at Toronto FC on FSN so, here's an opportunity to talk about that game, and other games through the rest of the League.

Here's the SBN Soccer preview of the game and here is the gamethread from StumptownFooty

Toronto continues their 4-3-3

Portland in 4-4-2

Brown in goal for Portland, and still looking like he plays the other football.

haha

i almost dont…i dont like them, but i want them to not fail…just to keep fairweather fans so the mls can grow…does that make sense? (i want two losses a year given by the sounders for sure, but i dont want them to fail miserably all year…)

Normally I think like

Seattle > Cascadia > Rest of them > That East Coast Team that I will never name.

But Seattle needs help on the table right now.

I've decided

I really, really like watching the Timbers lose.

I’ve watched both their losses, and it has been incredibly satisfying.

Game generally slowly up and down

Defenders with heavy tackles, but also allowing space. The slower pace though doesn’t mean that teams are controlling the ball. Just that they are turning it over frequently and slowly.

They don't seem to have shown the TA yet

Anyone know how many made the trip? You’d think the Timbers network would show TA before the Red Patch Boys.

I have heard that the crappy TV feed is shared by both broadcasters

but that may be wrong. Maybe its just Portland with technical difficulties.

If they're sharing the broadcast with the Toronto team...

That would explain why they haven’t shown the Timbers Army yet. It must not be a big showing though.

There they are

Apparently only 6 Timbers fans own passports :P

the FSN broadcast has been brutal so far...

i want them to get it fixed and now…

To be fair

It’s kind of true. But like with most any upgrade, 2.0 is far better than 1.0.

im not denying it

its just funny

Pretty poor play from both sides

I haven’t been impressed so far. The Timbers can definitely get back in this. Aside from Frei the TFC defense has looked shaky.

its cause they are

i was at the whitecaps game last week, and they never looked good…

Me too!

Was the video board on your right? I saw a Sounder up under the rafters opposite the TFC supporters. I was under the video board about 6 rows up.

I treating to see Jack Gleeson in

Timbers pull Brown at half time with hamstring injury

Gleeson on.

Just getting worse for PDX

I really want the Sounders to play Toronto

Scre this playing good teams to start the year crap. I want some cupcakes.

Down a man

Will this even up the game?

by Agent_J on Mar 26, 2011 12:51 PM PDT reply actions

I support the card

Because I hate time-wasting. It’s a scourge of the game and carding players is the only way to stop it.

by Dizzo on Mar 26, 2011 12:57 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Same here...

…I hated how multiple times last night, the center ref was outright ignored by players on Houston’s wall who belligerently set up two steps from a free kick. If you set the wall up two steps from a free kick, someone, anyone, should immediately get carded. It’s disrespectful to the official, the opposing team, and not least of all, the paying customers watching the game.

Beautiful 2nd goal from us. Martina looks like a keeper.

But our defense consists of 4 statues and Harden is the worst of them.

Heap, he did

How do I know? He’s captain of my fantasy team this week (-2×2 = -4 points) I picked him to replace Nkufo. :(

by Dizzo on Mar 26, 2011 4:12 PM PDT up reply actions

HOLY CRAP

the Galaxy are getting totally embarrassed by RSL. 4-0 at the moment. LA just looks like a bunch of amateurs.

by Nevtelen on Mar 26, 2011 7:35 PM PDT reply actions

4-1 the final

We’ve had some disappointing results so far this season, but at least we haven’t been owned like that. Just the absence of Donovan, just a bad night, or are the Galaxy really not all that and a bag of chips this season?

by Nevtelen on Mar 26, 2011 8:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Or RSL might be the best team in this hemisphere.

They are insanely good. They’re probably going to run away with the Shield this season.
