Sounders Academy v Vancouver Residency Cascadia Summit

Not going to do pure play-by-play here but just give my thoughts as things develop. The Vancouver Whitecpas are repected around North American soccer for their ability to develop talent. The Sounders have started much more recently, but brought in some of the best that Seattle has to offer.

Sean Okoli, Cox, Peterson, Herman all on the pitch for Seattle.

For the most die-hard of fans here at Starfire today they will get an opportunity to see the eventual futures of their clubs.

13 minutes in

Okoli and Cox working well to pressure in the box

Yedlin still impressing as a right wingback.

Brockway ans his CB partern fighting well to win the ball.

Both the Southsiders and Emerald City Supporters have about two dozen singing already

Dave

6 was actually Michael Gallagher from the 16s. He and Yedlin both wear it for their respective teams.

Thanks

Found out much later that 16s were mixed in with the 18s

No worries

We sat next to Gallagher’s mom so it made it a bit easier to figure it out. Jacob Beck started the game at left back, and Michael Steele and Jesse Klug (i think that his name) came on as subs later in the game.

Thanks Dave

for doing this. I couldn’t make it down today, but am anxious to hear how it goes.

the #6 for Vancouver can feed the long diaganol quite well

His passes and vision are solid. Plays the CDM and one of the more filled out bodies on the pitch.

Dismuke joins the Sounders threatening in the box.

Off topic.

Do you know if extra tickets for the game at 3 will be sold at the gate at Starfire.

tactically the Whitecaps are 4-1-3-2

with nearly flat four on defense.

Seattle more a traditional 4-4-2

shifting things to a 3-1-4-2

the Academy 18s attack mainly up the right.

Vancouver more adept at using all channels

Confused

There is still a senior team game vs. Vancouver at 3, right? Or is this it and I was only thinking it was supposed to be senior team?

That was pretty

what

happened i didn’t have the stream to where i saw the goal.

i mean

to where i could see it.

by gstommylee on Mar 6, 2011 12:49 PM PST up reply actions

Just good execution

I couldn’t see who it was but we ran down the near sideline and passed through a crap ton of Caps players to the lone Sounder who nailed it

"You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation they turned to a man they didn't fully understand."

close for 2-nil seattle

by gstommylee on Mar 6, 2011 12:56 PM PST reply actions

Hella good defensive timing on that

Academy team looking a lot like the senior team right now

Dominating possession, threatening to score on multiple occasions, only to get nailed by a couple of dumb errors on a counter in just about the only possession the opponents have.

They

are also used to playing on smaller pitches.

by gstommylee on Mar 6, 2011 1:01 PM PST up reply actions

Very sloppy play in back

That’s not the first time I’ve seen miscommunication when paying the back pass to the keeper. Good effort by Vancouver’s 9 and a tricky angle on the shot.

least its more exciting then the portland and seattle senior team game last friday.

True

At least we scored a couple of goals. sigh Not that I’m bitter or anything.

Wow

defensive mistake after defensive mistake. Not pretty.

by Nevtelen on Mar 6, 2011 1:09 PM PST reply actions

Well

this has turned negative quickly

and take it as a learning experience.

For sure

no doubt about that. Just an observation. In any sport, things like that are what you have to learn to play your way through.

Looked like a nice goal.

Too bad the camera didn’t follow it.

by Nevtelen on Mar 6, 2011 1:15 PM PST reply actions

Yeah

And the scoreboard hasn’t reflected it yet

"You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation they turned to a man they didn't fully understand."

by Modrik Zutar on Mar 6, 2011 1:16 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

I was just wondering if there was an offsides I didn’t see or something, but all the players were acting like it was a goal.

by Nevtelen on Mar 6, 2011 1:17 PM PST up reply actions

Scoreboard

still does reflect the goal – should be 4-3 now.

by Nevtelen on Mar 6, 2011 1:19 PM PST up reply actions
