Arlo White in the Elite 8
Arlo White pulled the big upset in the 2nd round of the Brock and Salk's Media Bracket. Our favorite announcer defeated co-host Mike Salk to move to the elite 8 in the bracket challenge. He now faces Rick Rizzs of the Mariners Radio Network.
The Bock and Salk show is one of the more prominent on 710 ESPN radio. The bracket is a chance for us to chime in and show that we want more soccer coverage on "the official place to talk Sounders FC soccer". Vote Arlo and Vote Soccer.

Other news on Meyer's blog
The Sounders declined Montano’s option although he’s still with the team as a trialist. The team must also make a decision on its Pat Noonan option by April 1.
More on his blog
I wondered
what the option price was to where Seattle would decline it.
Can you Imagine Arlo Vs Calabro?
Thats the final four matchup if they both win. Grudge Match!!!!
Honestly, this is great...
It’s BROCK AND SALKS OWN POLL! HAAHAH. I tried listening to them for a little bit, but they only stayed in their safe zone with talking mainly football and baseball. Didn’t venture out too much outside of that.
FUNNY!
I’ll keep voting, and thanks to Dizzo for continuing to pump up Arlo! :)

wait wait wait...
this morning I voted and it was 16…now it’s 8? Wasn’t he up against some angie lady isn’t it round 4 now? There was 64, 32 16 and now 8….
A sky of blue, a sea of green...(or claret)
I had the same thought.
He was up against Angie Mentnik, of FSN NW, when the poll went up last night. Then without word, it shot to the round of 8. What gives?

I honestly don't know
I saw the poll had moved to an 8 person bracket today and decided to do an update. Maybe they moved the poll ahead because Arlo’s is crushing the competetion?

The round of 16 just lasted one day.
I’m not sure how long the round of eight is going to last, I didn’t listen to the show today.

They don't have a clue as to how popular soccer is
I am not a Supporter | I am not a Fan | I am a Sounder

Salk is a tool
Not surprised he lost. I can’t stand that clown. Arlo v Calabro should be interesting. I voted for Brock just in case. No doubt he will beat him.
Mike Salk is probably the best sports radio personality in the region.

And I'll play the total buzzkill role here
but I’m pretty sure Mike Salk doesn’t actually hate soccer. The entire sports media bracket is an excuse for the guys in it to have fun.
Salk had some pretty good things to say about the World Cup when that was going on.
And aside from that, he's entitled not to like soccer,
Not everyone has to like the same things I like, but I’ve never heard him actively bash it aside from messing with Arlo.

That's pretty much the only time I've heard him making fun of soccer as well.
And even then he went out of his way to compliment Sounders fans for the atmosphere at Qwest.
But you’re absolutely right, if he or anyone doesn’t like soccer, that’s fine.
I do think its a problem
When the “I don’t like soccer” meme becomes an excuse not to talk about it, cover it, announce upcoming matches, discuss draft day (like they do for every other sport) or roster compliance day (like they do for every other sport – cuts in Spring Training and all that).
MLS is paid lip service by 710. In other areas of the country, I get that (since it isn’t NEARLY as popular as the other big sports). But here? Sounders and Mariners are, at least from my casual observation of bumper stickers and water-cooler conversations, equally popular. Perhaps not with the crowd that listens to sports radio, but there IS an audience there (or it seems like there would be).
But its a catch 22. They don’t cover it, so people don’t listen. Therefore they don’t cover it (because people don’t listen).

It's a problem if it's his job to cover local sports
The Thunderbirds get substantially more coverage on 710 than the Sounders.
But if you listen enough it’s obvious that the reason isn’t that they hate soccer so much as they just have no idea. Neither Brock or Salk have anything intelligent to say about soccer because they don’t follow it. And they can’t sit there for an hour saying nothing intelligent about soccer, so they ignore it.
They could bring in a soccer specialist, but that’s not the same as just riffing about it on air, as they do with all other sports.
Nos Audietis
In that case though, the problem rests much more with 710 than it does with Mike Salk.
I don’t think any of us are going to dispute the idea that 710 really doesn’t do enough with the Sounders. I won’t speak for Aaron, but my issue was that people were being overly harsh on Salk.
Just started listening to the podcast from Friday
Arlo is on the show in the last hour to talk to Salk and it’s pretty entertaining. I have to say…Arlo is one quick guy. He’s gone all Rocky on Salk. :-)
This is the link. You’ll want to fast forward to about the 25:30 mark to get to Arlo.
round 4 has ended
but no news on results…Im gonna guess arlo is through though…haha i voted about 30 times and got everyon in my english class to vote too
A sky of blue, a sea of green...(or claret)
Arlo versus Calabro in the final four.
Grudge match!
Flying chickens in the barnyard!
Arlo gets my vote over Kevin.
Nos audietis in somniis

Sorry Kevin
You were the voice of my childhood, but a vote for Arlo is a vote for Soccer.
