Major Link Soccer - Missing Najar Edition
The Seattle Sounders are on the road this weekend in San Jose to face the Earthquakes. The Sounders need to secure three points to get their season back on track especially against a rival in the West for that vital third playoff spot. Dave Clark has three questions up for the game and come back to SAH later today for a match preview and line-up card.
Leo Gets Card: One of the travesties last weekend was the unjust yellow card on Leo Gonzalez during the Houston Dynamo game. Gonzalez has been carded yet again this week. Luckily it was a green card meaning that the Costa Rican defender no longer takes up an international roster spot.
More news from around the league after the jump:
MLS Weekend Preview: Jeremiah Oshan has a preview of MLS games this weekend for those of you planning your TV time. In addition to the Sounders game, I have the DC United vs. Colorado Rapids match-up on my calender. I'm hoping DC United can pull an upset and appease the soccer gods after the Rapids mailed it in against the Chicago Fire in their Open Cup play-in game.
Mixed Results for the USA: Results were mixed for the senior and U-20 soccer teams this weekend. The men's national team looked good in their 1-0 loss to Paraguay on Tuesday. The U-20 men's team dominated their CONCACAF Championship game this week against Suriname. The 4-0 win in Guatemala City puts the team in first place in their qualifying group and they can secure a place this Saturday with a win over Panama. In other news, USMNT veterans Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope and Earnie Stewart will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer.
SuperLiga Out: The last three years have seen a series of mid-table clubs from both MLS and Primera Division in Mexico compete every summer in the SuperLiga. It provided a wonderful marketing opportunity for clubs hoping to connect with Mexican-American fans, but provided little more. On Tuesday Don Garber confirmed the death of the SuperLiga tournament when he confirmed the first-ever participation of MLS clubs in the World Football Challenge (WFC) this year. My take? Better teams. Same useless tournament.
Ochocinco Honorary Soccer Player: Back in 2009 Glenn Beck was given an honorary key to Mount Vernon. He came, he spoke and the press wrote articles. People had opinions and some wrote them on cardboard signs. The world moved on. I feel much the same way about Sporting KC making Chad Ochocinco an 'honorary member' of the team.
Welcome to SBN: Two new soccer blogs have joined the community here at SB Nation. Quake, Rattle and Goal will be covering the San Jose Earthquakes and already has three questions by our own Dave Clark up on his blog. Duncan Fletcher will be writing on Toronto FC for the new Waking the Red blog. Best of luck to our new members!
Najar to Make Decision: DC United's exciting young winger and home grown player is likely to make a decision regarding his international career in the next week according to Steven Goff. Unfortunately, it looks like he'll opt to play for the Honduran National Team rather than the US. It's a smart move for Najar's professional development, but the US will be missing out on a special talent.
Sala Super-Agent: Last year Dallas FC declined the option on veteran Colombian keeper Dario Sala. Sala retired during the off-season and recently wrote a touching letter to his fans at Big D Soccer. The interesting part is Sala's new career as a talent agent where he helped Mauro Rosales land a spot on the Seattle Sounders. Thanks Sala and keep the good players coming this way!
Hall in the News: A local news-source has a good interview with Gig Harbor product Tally Hall. The Houston Dynamo keeper had an excellent game against the Sounders last weekend.

International Roster Slot Speculation
I saw something interesting this morning after I had posted the links post. The Revolution are about to make a big international signing and are looking to trade for an international roster slot. Leo’s green card just freed one up for the Sounders. Great timing as the FO might be able to get some allocation money or a late draft pick from the Revolution for it.
Don’t we need that spot if we are to sign an international in the summer.
I’m assuming Rosales took Nkufo’s spot.
N'kufo
gotten his green card last year. So N’kufo leaving does not open a international slot.
I wonder if Nkufo'll have to give up his green card since he's no longer employed by the Sounders.
Though Nkufo’s wife must be a resident of Canada. Nkufo will probably be okay. Nkufo.
we have a couple open, i think we now only have 4 or 5 internationals with 7 international spots

Having problems getting the Davis link to work
This is the link for those who are interested: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/talking-tactics-what-4-3-3-needs-really-compete
Elaborate?
Why do you feel that Najar going to Honduras is a “smart” career move?
He'll get more playing time
The player pool for Honduras is much smaller so he should get playing time with the senior team right away. That will improve his development. It will also make it easier for him to go to Europe later since visas for EPL players (and assume others) are based on the number of caps a player has with their national team.
I wish Najar all the best
He grew up in Honduras, spent just about all of his life there. The talk of him playing for the US always struck me as very unrealistic. Sure he’s likely going to torment the USMNT for the next decade and a half, but he’s Honduran, not American.
You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.
Hey Dizzo
You should add a link to MLS Soccer.com
They have a real nice article on Tetteh covering his background. Sounds like he had a difficult time but has had come a long way to get to Seattle. Who knew he was a goalie?

Cheeky? So you are calling him a butt cheek? An @ss?
That is cold dude ;)
Winter says "still in discussion with a number of teams"
You know who’s a team? The Sounders are a team.
I know I’m in the minority on wanting DeRo in Seattle, but the dude can score. He scores in his sleep. We need scores. Yes, personality issues. Yes, the team has so far shown it is entirely incapable of dealing with personality issues. But come on. Just for one season? One magical run?
Nos Audietis
We could give him DP money for a year too
Bet that would resolve some of the personality issues.
You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.
What
would Seattle have to be giving up in order to get DeRo. Isn’t he mostly a midfielder anyways?
O'Brian White?
April fool.
Actually, mlssoccer.com confirms DeRo’s going to NY for Tony Tchani, Dan Borman and a 2012 draft pick. Red Bulls want to win NOW.
